Id rather have the ecoboost with a factory tune than any NA v8.
I hate to say it, but..... the ecoboost does trump a natural V8. Even the smaller eco v6 in the f150 is pretty solid. Took a while for my mind to be comfortable with this reality.

That said....

I'd dump my eco raptor for an R any day. Supercharge the world, baby.

I’d love to pick up a RR but I am unwilling pay over MSRP for it. I loved the F150 Lightning S/C V8 and yeah it’s just impressive that they’re squeezing more power out of a much smaller mill.

not too sure, but i drove it today in the same settings and basically it does the same thing on the road with the turbo gauge up on the screen...

its def turbo lag, so ill shoot a video and get it posted..

try it yourself... drive along, pretty much any speed, 30-60mph, coast and punch the gas to the floor, there is a noticeable delay before anything happens. not ideal in some driving situations. perhaps drive by wire is partially to blame and i should try putting the stock tune back in and see if that affects anything, but i doubt it will.

it is not making turbo boost off throttle (anti-lag, baja mode) and while backfiring thru the exhaust may keep the turbo rpm up, these units do not make instant boost.

while i probably come off as an ecoboost hater, i love a lot of things about this truck.. its pretty fun, i think i have the best sounding exhaust setup after spending thousands.. and i am planning on keeping this truck long term, but i dont have great faith in the reliability of this engine in the long run..

I wonder how much is the turbo and how much is the 10 speed. It just didn't seem that responsive to downshift to me. I'm sure I'll insult someone's religion with this, but I think GM did a better job on the programming for their version of the 10 speed. I don't know what the stats are, but driving a Raptor back to back with a 6.2L/10A ZR2, the ZR2 responded faster. The rest of the truck was meh, but the drivetrain was on point.

I've driven about every configuration that's out there and still prefer a V8. I also prefer to shift my own gears, even though I understand it's not "better" in this day and age. The feeling is better, though, and if you're buying an enthusiast vehicle the overall experience and fun of it is more important than a few tenths of a second or what-have-you.

The FPC in the Voodoo was essentially a marketing gimmick and the engines weren't that reliable in the end.

The heads and valvetrain (the most important improvemnts from that engine) live on though!
I disagree, I think the Voodoo is a great motor in an enthusiast road car. Due to packaging constraints which dictated the design of the intake, the firing order used causes vibrations that are hard to manage. Not an issue in general but did present as an issue in dedicated race applications. However, the reliability issues with the gt350 are drastically overblown on the internets, just like everything else.

He’s definitely got a bad track record around here. A Sasquatch at best.

To your point, the 5.2 FPC is absolutely incredible, especially from a mainstream manufacturer. The fact that someone (ericm) would argue it’s a “marketing gimmick” while worshiping a short bus fleet engine is absolutely comical. I can’t imagine being so insecure and defensive.

Dude, check out that link I posted above. You want to see insecure trolling ramped up to 11, that’s pretty representative of how bad it used to be.

But yet here you are constantly arguing that the 3.5L is the best thing that ever happened to raptor and also the most logical choice by a big margin....

Be honest.. you never owned a gen1 raptor, perhaps maybe never drove one and definitely not off roaded one.. but yet you are constantly bashing the 6.2L which seems to be much more reliable long term than the 3.5L..

every raptor should get better as the generations progress, but I think there's a larger factor of owners that would have preferred a V8 offering, no matter if the performance was less than the 6cyl

Maybe quote some dyno chart and then tell me how dumb I am, and definitely facepalm this post..
