baja mode, 2wd, long press TC

this was on a power line road in the nevada desert.. these holes were way better at speed if i loaded up the deavers and 3.5s out back and kinda carried the front over..

at first it almost was as if a nanny kicked in, but if i was already on accel it wasnt there, so i attributed it to turbo lag..

going from brakes, even barely touching them, back to gas quickly, happened every time... like there was no throttle pedal for a split second when i felt i really needed some response..

What was your RPM at?

not too sure, but i drove it today in the same settings and basically it does the same thing on the road with the turbo gauge up on the screen...

its def turbo lag, so ill shoot a video and get it posted..

try it yourself... drive along, pretty much any speed, 30-60mph, coast and punch the gas to the floor, there is a noticeable delay before anything happens. not ideal in some driving situations. perhaps drive by wire is partially to blame and i should try putting the stock tune back in and see if that affects anything, but i doubt it will.

it is not making turbo boost off throttle (anti-lag, baja mode) and while backfiring thru the exhaust may keep the turbo rpm up, these units do not make instant boost.

while i probably come off as an ecoboost hater, i love a lot of things about this truck.. its pretty fun, i think i have the best sounding exhaust setup after spending thousands.. and i am planning on keeping this truck long term, but i dont have great faith in the reliability of this engine in the long run..

Honestly, it sounds more like the fly by wire system vs turbo lag.

I did this same test when I swapped boost tubes ( reminder to self, have to follow up on this ). Now, when I had one of the sleeves come loose, I did have the issue you describe.
I’ll retest. I don’t remember this coming up unless I jammed it into manual mode and floored it at low-ish rpms. I’m not talking about 1200 rpms here, more like just below 2k in 10th. Then progressively lower gears.

Do you remember if your truck is shifting? I’ve got an early 2017 and had to have the TCM reprogrammed to make the transmission shift more politely. She would not shift out of any overdrive gear as delivered. This was mostly manifested trying to merge on a highway. If I came off the exit faster than about 33-ish, I’d be in 7th or 8th. I could get a downshift out of 7th, but not 8th on up. After the reprogram - circa 2018, it was much better but I still think it’s a bit slow to downshift - the process. If I stab the pedal from an OD gear it seems like F O R E V E R until the transmission shifts down and acceleration actually occurs. Sport mode is much better, as is M&S.

When I swapped the boost tubes, I did both auto and manual mode to gauge what was going on. I don’t often use manual mode, especially from a take off because 1st gear is GONE way too quick.

Yep, we see over 250,000 miles pretty regularly. If I thought they were shit I would not own 2.
