Quick pic dump before hitting the hay…
Got the turbos and exhaust manifolds off; just noticed I still have part of one of the coolant lines for the RH bank still attached to the motor:
Pics of the valve covers so I know which holes have bolts, and which have studs for the wiring loom supports, LoL.
Need to pull the old flywheel too…have a shiny new polished billet flywheel from Suncoast ready to go on. Will need to ensure that’s included when whoever rebuilds my bottom end does the crank assembly balancing.
Same pic as the previous post…. No luck on finding my puller; I must have loaned it out and have since forgotten to whom it was loaned. Will just buy a new one mañana.
I’m very curious to see if the rubber is separating or delaminating on that pulley/harmonic balancer like we’ve seen in so many other trucks with over 100K miles on the clock. Likely gonna order a replacement/upgrade from ATI soon if I don’t find a better option.
One note: No issues at all getting the RH motor mount bolts loosened up in anticipation of the motor removal, but it took the 3’ breaker to get that huge through bolt for the LH mount started!
Tomorrow’s goals are to get the timing cover off, and remove all the timing gear. If I have time I’ll also pull the motor and bolt it up to the engine stand so I can get started on removing the heads.
Priority after undressing the front though is to get the two
4’ rails I have from Inline Fabrication installed on my wall so I can hang all the dang Akro bins full of parts that are accumulating! Still semi-organized right now, but it’s rapidly devolving into a mess! LoL.
I use their rails to store and organize a lot of my reloading gear, but they also work great to hold these larger Akro bins for maintenance and other shop projects too.
More to follow.
