Those of you that have tuned are y'all using differently gapped spark plugs from what stock is?


Currently running Gearhead Tuning. I was one of the first for the Gen2 file. I switched from the MPT when Gearhead released their file.

Larz with tell you that they recommend the 2.7L plug SP-542 gapped at .28 for best results. The factory plug will work fine but a plug change will pick up power and added detonation protection. GHTuning has the cheapest priced on pregapped 2.7L plugs.

When I look these guys up and look on their website they are primarily diesel guys.

How much do they do the ecoboost platform?

Also....

The auto-adjusting octane tune...

That’s Ford’s adaptive knock retarding. MPT and 5 Star have this in place as well as does Whipple and Livernois. That’s just clever marketing.

But I still want to know how the tune reviews and the tranny logic.

Guy, I think it’s also important to note that Many of us live in Ca. And need a tune that will be close to what MPT is. I personally think MPT is great but I don’t want to go through the hassle of using an out of state address and risk Mike finding out that I live in Ca only to stop giving me updates.



Regarding Gearhead’s Dyno, their numbers that they posted on their graph were “heat soaked” as well. Im not saying that they make as much power as MPT, but in my opinion Gearheads curve and numbers are the closest to MPT.



For you CA guys, Whipple is the best answer. That carb legal tune makes a lot of headaches go away when you have to smog.... in 2021 :) But seriously, for the group buy money and the EO number, it’s a great deal.

What tuner device do they use?

They are using Sae J1349 which is a correction factor that assumes 15 percent drive train loss.

In other words.... you’re seeing inflated horsepower numbers and an inflated delta.

It’s still probably a nice gain though.

I'm not going to get into "inflated horsepower numbers". The numbers on our page were in 95+ ambient air temp. Our revised numbers are 360 stock (with octane fully learned and not heat soaked), and 445 tuned. Also, we are doing this on 17.5 pounds of boost. The turbos are pretty much maxed out there. Pushing them harder than that raises your chance of premature turbo failure.

We have been doing Ecoboost for a couple of years now. I have a 2017 Raptor, my wife has a 2016 Explorer sport. My Co-Owner has a 2017 SHO, and a 2015 Expedition We also have a 2017 2.3 Mustang, 2017 F150 3.5, and a 2016 F150 between shop vehicles and employees.

Auto-adjusting octane isn't clever marketing. We take it one step further than the factory calibration. Our tunes will reduce max allowed boost as well as timing if the octane drops (as far as I know, no one else is doing this?). Clever marketing is convincing the consumer they need a specific tune for every octane. Instead we spent time perfecting one file.

We keep a stock pedal feel, but can change it if requested. Let me know if you have any questions, I would be more than happy to answer them.

We adjust up shifts and down shifts, under some throttle positions it does not skip gears. The 10 speed trans tuning is something else, so many options, sometimes I question what "feels right". We have had great response to it so far though, and I feel like it fits my daily driver needs. I am always open for critique though.

We do use the N-Gauge, I would love to chat with you if you want to give us a shout!
