I bent a rim there, it was muddy and cold. I had my tire under my truck. If it wasn't for Dave at KHC with a proper jack, batter impact wrench and a spare in his bed it would have taken at least 2 hours to change....I had your same feeling before I went...not anymore.

I wont loose any sleep over it. I'll bring 3 spares with me like I did for TRR and not need a single one.

Trust me i know that feel...

Spent plenty of time swapping front end or random suspension components on busted rally cars 30-100miles from civilization (yeah rim of the world!). So i know the WHY, but i question applying the why to this where (its a 4x4 park, its not hundreds of miles in the middle of a desert), the track its self is composed of open fields and wide trails with some mods made to it with an excavator if im not mistaken (see vid below, looks awesome dont i!).

Wide Open Pennsylvania Promo Video - Legendary Excursions / Rausch Creek Off Road Park - YouTube

Anyways i have been enough of a distraction, hopefully someone will clarify why the stock location is not acceptable and I can stop scratching my head in confusion.

Nobody said anything about getting dirty...will there be power washers and detailers on hand to wash my truck? Adams maybe to?

This reason is some if these trails are really tight. If someone was to get a flat is one of these sections and the tire was mounted under the bed it can take a long time to just get the tire out.

That truck would know be holding up everyone for say 10-15mins.

Now with it mounted in the bed its four steps.

Jack truck
Remove flat tire
Remove tire from bed and install.

Its just a much more efficient way of carrying your spare during large events like this.

Arrive to the event then just strap it down if you don't want to spend the money on a solution for it.

I plan on doing other events, but this is the first even i have seen that mandates a bed rack. Not exactly sure why they are taking this stance as rausch creek is anything but a 100mile trail out in the middle of a desert. Only thing i could think of to explain it would be faster tire changes while on the track. Which if memory serves me correctly the track isnt really a track, but more of a large open field with a track etched into it (not like a rally race, where you could be stuck on the side of a cliff with 2 feet of space), so folks can pull off to the side and take their time.

I am still curious as to hear why this mandate is in place.

Really what it comes down to is added expense to do it right (sorry latching down a tire in my bed doesnt sound like the brightest idea to me, when i know im going to want to push myself and my truck).

You ever use one? Does it require drilling of the bed?

Go to the Home Depot and buy the $9.99 4 pack of ratchet straps. Put the tire against your front tailgate wall. Strap one around the tire with the forward most hooks and then make an x with 2 other straps. If you can knock that loose then your spine would be in pieces lol.

Seriously if you want me to do it and take pics to give you an example I will gladly do so. This isn't as big of a deal as you're making it out to be.

There's a pic in the beginning of the snoball thread. Just put the straps through criss-cross and weave them through the spokes. Done

I strapped mine with straps woven as Huck said for the Snoball and it worked great. Tire stays in the bed full time now. Under the truck is a pain. I built a rack out of wood to make storage easier and will use it for the SDBR next week. Tire still strapped to d-rings I put on the bed bolts. Works under bakflip too. Iso, no rack required. Still going to get one from WSI soon as I figure out what I want/need.

Going to register this Friday (pay day). This will be my first event, can't wait to meet everyone! My wife wanted to go but we don't have anyone to watch our kid so I'll be flying solo... just hope I'm not the only one.

Now to figure out lighting options for the night-time run.

See you guys in September!

Edit: Hotel booked!
