I had just taken it out of the garage when the noises had started in 4x4 high , so it really wasn't that cold , maybe lack of use or 6k elevation has something to add to the problem ?

Okay.. The thing with IWE is vacuum vent is exposed to the outside environment. So what will happen is the formation of ice in the system from damp/moist air entering the IWE. This will slow, or stop engagement of 4wd, by restricting the outside air pressure entering.. If that make sense..

that is why I say it might help to cycle it in and out of 4x4 a few times? I got mine back from the ship working fine but dirt also must get in the way because the first time was summer off roading.

My family has four raptors. Three have had front hub snapping, popping problems. On my two raptors one had a slipping hub IWE From the very first day. It is a 2012. My second raptor is a 2011 with long travel suspension. It has already gone through two driver side hub units in the last two weeks.

I know that in late 2012 Ford switched manufacturers on their hub and bearing assemblies. This is why raptor parts for the hub were backordered for a few months late in 2012.

I drive my trucks very hard, but not in four-wheel-drive. When driving in four-wheel-drive I'm usually in a Hillclimb situation or driving in snow maybe a foot deep. Sometimes in sand too.

The Ford raptors clearly have two major flaws number one the rear frames can bend. number two they seem to go through front locking hubs like kids through candy.

The Ford SVT team needs to clearly address this problem and I think should offer some sort of replacement. It seems like they've been covering up this issue. But any dealer who has been dealing with raptors will tell you off the record they had to replace a lot of hubs.

The only person I know who hasn't had a hub problem is my dad and he mainly drives is wrapped around the road. Most of the other guys I know who drive raptors off-road regularly seem to develop this front hub slipping problem. I personally disassembled and looked at my front bearing and hub assemblies twice and you can clearly see where the gears start to strip invests your truck starts popping out of four-wheel-drive When the tires are in sand somewhat deep snow or similar type of situation. The popping in and out of four-wheel-drive does not seem to happen I'm just driving down an icy road. I believe this is because on road conditions even in ice and snow before wheels are spinning at nearly the same speed. When off Road The tire speeds and traction conditions can obviously vary greatly. This puts more strain on the front auto locking hubs. And thus they start to fail. The hubs are the weak point in the Ford raptor front suspension.

If there was an aftermarket solution for this I would be buying it. This really irritates me because I hate having to change the same parts over and over. It's a waste of my time.

One more thing. On my 2012 raptor the front hub essentially stripped when I was down in a small canyon. A bit of the Sandy Hillclimb was needed to get back out. No ttow truck could get close to me.

As soon as any load was correct on the front wheels and we'll start spinning one of my front hubs would start slipping and grinding. Basically I didn't have four-wheel-drive and my vehicle was stuck at Canyon.

Here is a tip if you ever in that situation. The gears in the hub are probably only stripped for one direction. Most likely for when the vehicles driving forward. If your hubs are slipping badly and you're stuck you can probably put your vehicle in reverse and back out of the obstacle or canyon to extract your own vehicle. This is what I did. I charged in reverse up the Sandy Hillclimb. It was weird driving backwards at speed with my head out the window and probably a bit dangerous but I was able to get myself up to Hillclimb and out of the sand canyon.

I have 13 and experienced the same pop while in 4hi driving in sand. I've built tons of high hp cars and that sound isn't a good thing.

My truck only has 900 miles on it.
