Per tank, maybe. I use the same station and pump typically though.

I've tracked every gallon that has gone into every vehicle I own through ACar/Fuelly app. The lifetime average effectively eliminates the minor variables. Lifetime average is exactly 13.50 MPG with most of that being in the city.



I also get mid to high 16s from my Gen 1 Raptor on a flat highway at 75 MPH. It's almost like it takes the same amount of energy to push a 2013 F150 on 35 in tires at 75 MPH as it does a 2017 F150 on 35 in tires at 75 MPH. Hmmmmm.

If it's a choice between a 13 MPG N/A engine on 87 octane and a 16 MPG boosted engine on 92 octane, I'll take 13 MPG and 87 octane (2.20 here) over 16 MPG and 92 octane (2.88) prices anyday.

$ / mile with 13 MPG and 87 octane is $0.17 per mile. At 16 MPG and 92 octane, it's $0.18 per mile. You have to average 18 MPG on premium to come out ahead.

I was on the same route I-80 going in the opposite direction, on the way out to chicago to trade in my gen 1, and I got 12. Locked on 75mph
That's with 37s on top perch and exhaust. Mileage was taken at the pump, not if I reset my computer while I'm doing 75 on the highway. The computer means jack squat.

Boy I must have bad luck with gas mileage.

The first reports of the 7.3 in a motor home is that the mileage is the same or worse than the V10 it replaces. I had also heard through a friend that an engineer at Ford said that mileage was a problem with the engine, which is one reason why it was not released earlier. She is a thirsty one. That my be a problem for putting that in a vehicle that goes into the corporate fuel average. Super Dutys and Motor Homes don't qualify, so it doesn't matter.

So hypothetically speaking - do you guys think it will be a performance version of the 7.3L engine? We all know they aren't going to put a heavier engine than the current one and also reduce the power levels....regardless if people want a V8 or not...whatever the new engine is, you can be certain that they aren't going back in power with the TRX coming out. So do you think this NA 7.3 has what it takes to comfortably make a lot more power than the super duty version is advertised at? If you are in a raptor then you shouldn't care too much about fuel mileage but if it is detuned and getting horrible mileage, you can bet the performance version will do a lot worse and that is definitely something Ford is discussing for the masses.

anyone every own an 8.1 chevy? it got 6mpg no matter what - cruising with a tail wind, city, hwy, towing a house....6 mpg. Of course we have 6 more gears now which helps.

I am traditionally a V8 guy myself and was very skeptical of this 3.5TT. I am stock other than Cobb Tune/Filter. I think it would be hard to go away from forced induction and get back into something with an NA V8 that had reduced HP/TQ. I do miss the rumble/peace of mind of a NA V8 but everything else aside, I very much enjoy driving this truck, especially after tuning. A smaller displacement ecoboost V8 would be on my wishlist. I would be surprised to see a new gen raptor come out with lower than 500hp/575tq. In my opinion that needs to be a forced induction motor. I don't see the 7.3 making that kind of power - current rating is 430/475. Maybe they have 2 offerings to appeal to everyone....

It’s already underpowered compared to the current HO EB3.5- we already know as a community in general that tune alone on these engines frees up 70-100hp- and from what I can gather, do so fairly reliably.

Ford could easily crank up the boost/stock tuning on the raptors- maybe tune it for 91+ octane only, add a better stock IC, or hell even change up cam profiles or add larger turbos. They already have em on the GT.

FWIW I’m in the business of manufacturing AL for the auto industry & recently attended a symposium/conference hosted by Reuter’s/Platts S&P specifically about the future of the auto industry, the ICE, AL usage overall in vehicles, & everything else power train related- there were Ford engineers there & reps from other industry think tanks etc- I can assure you development of new V8s is way WAY down the totem pole as far as Ford is concerned.

Want a V8? Get a Ram or GM.

I dont disagree, but more often than not, mpg claims are usually exaggerated on the high end. People love to claim they get great mileage "all day long".
I could careless what anyone thinks about my gas mileage, it's a Raptor. I got mid to high 16s out of my Raptor on open flat highway at 75. Fact.

did a small sample size test today. Reset computer. Went 45 miles on hwy at 75 mpg. Got 17.6 mpg. So the RJ junior (aka the Ohio road test bs artist) was right. I didn’t get 18 mpg at 75 mph. Sorry junior!

With the millions that Ford has invested in EcoBoost and the negative ramifications that Gen 2 owners would suffer if a V8 became available I can't see an 8 cylinder Raptor happening in the future.
