Even if it were true you could just screw on a motocraft filter before you take it in. Theres not a flash counter for the oil filter.

I use nothing but the motorcraft.
I agree that the oil change was extremely easy. My only gripe is that the oil filter is almost horizontal. I typically like to prefill my new oil filters before putting them on.
Maybe the 6.2L primes the filter before starting? I dunno. Anyway, w/ the current orientation of the filter I can only prefill a little bit if at all. The drain ramp is definitely a cool little touch. My guess is the people complaining about getting oil all over the skidplate were just in too big of a hurry.
I switched my truck over to Amsoil 5w-20 full synthetic and am still using the standard Motorcraft filter.
BTW, upon resetting my average mpg while driving on the highway the other day. I got up to 16.6 mpg highway only at 70mph. Probably inflated numbers by the computer, but I'm still impressed. Also, not saying that the mpg is related to the oil since I didn't try this test with the Motorcraft 5w-20 blend. I just wanted to comment on my observation.
Changed my own oil for the first time this morning and have a couple observations.
The slide for the oil filter dribble is ingenious. Ford FTW!
Looking up capacity for my 6.2L (7 Qts), I noticed the capacity for the 5.0L engine is a whopping 7.7 Qts! Wow.
Lastly, this is one the easiest engines I've ever changed the oil on.
Oil changes are even easier when you have a front bumper like ADD's
You must be used to the Toyota oil changes, they SUCK!!! Specially if you have a Tundra or Sequoia with the double stack skid plate, what a damn joke.
The 6.2's little funnel system works great, but the 5.4's funnel system doesn't catch any oil. It just goes all over the skid plate/ground. Ford kinda failed the 5.4's.
