changing is easy its nice, but taking off the filter for the first time holy shit what did they do put it on with an impact gun it was tight has hell.

I didn't have any problem simply removing the factory filter using an old metal band filter wrench.

My main gripe as well. As ingenious as the drip/drain tray is, it would have been a lot more ingenious to put the filter in a horizontal orentation. Which would more than likely eleminated the need for said tray. IMO.

You mean vertical?

I'm going to assume you meant vertical.

I've had vehicles with it in the vertical position. The ones with the filter on the bottom of the engine are going to leak oil no matter how they're oriented. And yes I drain the oil pan first. My Toyota is like this.

My BMW oil filter was vertically oriented but on the top of the engine. Only one I've ever changed that didn't dribble...cause you know how BMW owners hate to get their hands messy.:birgits_tiredcoffee

You CAN pre-oil the new oil filter for your Raptor prior to ******** it on. Just don't FILL it.

I am a lot less impressed with the factory oil drip/drain device. I take a big round Gatoraide bottle and cut the bottom and one side off and use it instead.

Do be sure to let the crankcase continue to drain after you've removed the old oil filter. Removing the oil filter releases suction in certain oil galleries, allowing them to drain into the crankcase. If you've buttoned up the crankcase, you'll be leaving a half-cup of dirty oil in there.

If you need to jack up a Raptor to change the oil, then you're built like a gorilla!

FWIW, do a weight comparison between the Mobil 1 filter and anything else. There's more filtration material in the Mobil 1 filter and the can is thicker. If you can find a better filter, buy it. (But you won't.)
