Gen 2 owners - when did you complete you first oil change? I know some folks religiously change the oil early on (1000-2000 miles) regardless of what the manual dictates, but I'm curious what everyone else is doing. Unless I missed something in the manual, it seems as though the oil change interval is entirely dependent on how you drive the truck and so you're supposed to wait until it tells you to change the oil. I'm a little over 5000 miles now and still haven't seen any lights on the dash indicating that I need to change the oil.

Edit: I'm actually a little over 6000 miles now.

personally i changed it last week @1500 to get full synthetic in it. the factory is blend. there is a section in the dash that will show oil life and remaining though. it says engine and i forget under what tab in the dash. next one will be @ 5k-10 depending on when i feel like it. i do have extensive idle periods during the school year.

Full Synthetic

Did you have the dealership change the oil for you? I had my first oil change and completed on Friday at 1400 miles to get full synthetic in it. That Ford Motorcraft full synthetic oil isn't cheap, the oil change was $81.00! Well worth it I'm sure!

Good thinking. I had forgotten that there was an engine information section. I checked it just now and it says 40% oil life remaining. Given my mileage, it must be assuming 10k for the first oil change. That seems like a long time, particularly for the FIRST oil change.

Let's see:
1. You could change your oil.
2. You can wait and change your oil late in the game, and no big deal.
3. You can wait and change your oil late in the game, and wonder if your problems might not be so bad if you had changed your oil early.

I went with #1 at 1500 miles and then on every 5000 mile increment. Always spend the extra money on my favorite synthetic. It's been working for +210,000 miles on the '11 Raptor and +10,000 miles on the '17.
Your motor, your money, enjoy your decision.

4. You can follow the manufacturer recommended maintenance interval as a baseline and conduct oil analysis more frequently to adjust your maintenance cycle accordingly.

5k may be overkill for full synthetic but all depends on your driving conditions and certainly won't hurt your engine unless you over/under fill frequently. Either way, periodic oil analysis is the only way to truly know what you're car needs.

First oil change at 1800, refilled with Ford semi-synthetic to complete break-in. At 3300 or so now, will go to full synthetic at 5k miles. Plan to do every 5k after that.

Wow. Everybody doing something different. Wonder who is right?

I'm going to try something different and do what the manual says.
