exterior temperature update

So I drive my raptor daily (find it weird anyone that doesn't)

I leave for work and it's typically a lot cooler than the afternoon. As such the exterior temperature is much lower.

However, the driving I do at work is substantial. but it is all at lower than 30mph, all the way up until my trip home.


soooooo the exterior temperature stays on what it was in the morning, when the temperature has gone up 20 degrees. this affects the climate control.

is there a way to reset that without having to drive over 30mph for X amount of seconds?

my jeep did the same thing. annoying AF

Is this a known quirk? That you have to drive over 30mph to get it to update. If so, that is weird.

You could always gun it in the parking lot.

Didn't even know this was an issue. Partly because I use CarPlay and the temperature doesn't show up on that screen or the drivers dash, that's super annoying! I just ask Siri what the temp is lol.

it should normalize in less then 5 mins. no matter what speed. If your exterior is off by 20 degrees, you may want to have it looked at.

I can park in the sun and the inside of the truck may be 50, while the outside is 30......my outside indicator still read correct.

Any chance you’re either seeing DTC or had the grille out, like to install a light bar?
I managed to throw a temp related DTC last time I had the grille out; before I cleared it I noticed the temperature reading was way, way, way off. cleared the DTC, temp was back to normal.

I think it is normal. Jeeps do it as well. I have noticed it on my Raptor when I have been forced to go slow at first. I agree that it is stupid, but I think they do it so the radiator heat does not effect it. Jeeps also will not update in 4wd, but I am not sure that the Raptor does that.

That is exactly why. It will drop immediately to account for sudden temp drops, but increases take time to avoid being affected by the engine. If the temp display says it's 38 degrees outside, people will complain when they slide off a road that is covered in ice because it's really 28 degrees.

The "slow rise" was not an issue until Ford started using it as a determinant in the functioning of the HVAC. Tell you what Ford- screw the outside stuff altogether. If I put it to 80, give me 80 degree air. If I put it on 55, give me 55 degree air. Simple enough.

This is normal. I use mine for work as I do my Superduties. We tend to sit on location from early morning with the trucks idling for a couple hours sometimes. Just yesterday it was 24 on location at 7am. When I left at noon, it was 44, but took several miles at 40+ mph before the temp changed. Truck had been turned off for 3 hours at that point, but it does it even at stationary when truck is running,.
It has been this way with Ford trucks for years. Was the same also on my 2014 Denali HD.
