GEN 2 EXTENDED WARRANTIES

I have been inundated with companies asking about this phone, email, text etc.

Are any of these worth a poop? I and alot of others are outside warranty with no option at "ford" are any aftermarkets worth buying? Approx cost? Im at 68K miles.

I've also been inundated with those phone calls/mail with offers for 'extended warranty'. A quick Google reveals many bad reviews, bad BBB ratings and a litany of nightmare stories when people actually try to use the warranty the company does it's best Barry Sanders impression and Heisman's that claim.

I would never go for one even if out of factory warranty, my 2¢ is to put $50 away a month into a savings account and call that your warranty account. If anything big pops up you have the cash on hand to quickly fix whatever issue rather than fighting with a company, delaying the process, and likely not getting the issue resolved.

general rule is.....if you cant get a True Ford Extended Warranty......it is not worth your time and money.

I believe you can still purchase a Ford ESP outside of factory warranty, but you'll have to pay for an ESP inspection first.

Any phone call from an unknown number about vehicle warranties is a scam.

Simple answer: NO.

The aftermarket warranty companies are all about maximizing profit. They sell you a warranty under the premise that they won't have to pay out. When you file a claim, they have a playbook of excuses to avoid paying the claim. Most of this will be evident in the fine print of the warranty contract, but they may use as many legal terms as possible to confuse the average consumer.

I have seen many sad stories of customers who have needed repairs outside of OE coverage and have tried to get it fixed through their aftermarket warranty. The aftermarket warranty company will typically start by requesting all maintenance records, hoping to fine even a small discrepancy. They may send out an inspector to try and find a reason that the repair isn't covered. They will bully the dealer on the cost of the diagnosis and repair costs, sometimes to the point where the vehicle rots on the lot in a stalemate as all parties argue back and forth. And if they do have to eventually pay out, they will try and use junkyard parts first and foremost.

My recommendation is Ford ESP/Protect, or don't bother.

It is really important to do your due diligence purchasing an extended warranty. Like FordTech alluded, there are many out there that are really tough to deal with. With that said, I have several repair facilities and honor multiple providers. We have a great working relationship with them, and many times do self inspections (they usually send inspectors), and more times than not are able to get the customers vehicles repaired under said warranty.

With that said, I have always purchased FORDS ESP.

I do not know if this is entirely true as I have had several aftermarket warranties and they had a 100 dollar deductible. Once you paid they 100 bucks they would cover everything. CNA and Flood has been the ones I have used and when I sold the truck they gave me my money back for the unused portion. If the dealership backs the warranty is the key I believe. As long as the dealership sells the warranty and you do service at that dealer then all is good.
