haha yeah. Gary had placed a second X pipe before the x pipe muffler and it seems like it made it worse. I've also been reading info that too long of tail pipes can cause drone.
Thinking about cutting off one pipe for now just as it goes over the axle at a joint to see how it changes things.
Frustrating!

When I went to straight pipes, the drone was unbearable. Couldn't think it was so loud. I shortened it and ditched the tips and now its 100% better. No drone at all and a million times quieter on the freeway.

I've read as well that the 5.4L are more prone to drone for some reason.
It's all trial and error and I've got to start somewhere.
Drone is driving me insane, Gary even took me in his truck truck to show me the drone in his truck
which he has Flowmasters and I couldn't believe how quiet it was.

whtrapta, is yours exiting the side?
Before or after the wheel?

It was a side exit in front of the tire (lightning style) with a tip. Thats when it droned like crazy in 6th gear. Now it is just a turned down dump about 2 feet before the axle. Its actually unfinished still, I just cut the end off the set up so it looks nasty if you get under and look.

Well I cut both tips off and it did help out a bit. I was measuring around 85db and now it's around 81.
Still load and I'd like to get it a little bit quieter.
Might still swap out the muffler.

Well dont get the Magnapack bro!!!
As you can see with Cody's and my mufflers - they're straight through skinny little ones and don't offer much sound resistance.
I ran Flowmaster's on my Bronco's often and it was a nice deep rowl sound at low rpm and not too much drone.

The biggest thing is that you have different headers and y pipe than us. I have crap stock manifolds and the nasty non high flow cats that keep my truck tolerable even without a muffler.

This is very true. When I had just the headers to the stock exhaust I had drone but it wasn't bad at all. Very mild.
Now it's very noticable but if I could just cut it down even 25% I'd be ok with it. I'll make it work it's just gonna take some time.

OK ever since I had this exhaust installed I've noticed a huge loss in MPG and POWER LOSS.
Is this NOT strange that a more open exhaust system would cause this???
Would less back pressure cause this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Plans are to change the exhaust out when the weather gets warmer.
