Hi,
Our family is thinking of taking a long weekend trip to Ensenada. For you who've done the drive without a large group, could you please let us know how safe it is and if there were any concerns at all? Wife is a little nervous. Also, have any of you brought your dog and were there any issues?

Thanks ahead of time.

Raptor related because we'd be driving our Magnetic 2018.

Ensenada and the rest of the costal touristy cities are pretty safe. If you stick to the main roads and highways you should be good. There's plenty of Raptors down there too.

Agreed, feels safe and I see other Raptors driving around as well. Only sketchy part is coming back across the border if you haven’t done so before. Just have to realize that vendors will be swarming around your vehicle while you wait in line to cross.

Just stay on the Cuota and you will be fine. Stop in Puerto Nuevo for a lobster dinner for about $20. So good!

Unless you have sentry pass, I'd take the detour and cross into MX at tecate. Its a pretty drive from tecate to ensenada anyway.

Crossing back, while out of the way, we cruised through mexicali in like 15 mins.

I feel safer driving in mexico than i do in socal.

thanks for the replies so far. anyone had a bad experience on the relatively short drive? 10 years ago we were driving near Tulum on the other coast and a fake (or so we thought) officer in an unmarked car tried to pull us over for nothing. that ended up being really scary and straight out a movie kind of chase. we don't want anything like that with our 9 year old in the truck. i would think on a weekend in July there are lots of people crossing the border and driving down for the weekend, right?

also, is it a dumb idea to bring our dog or has anyone done it and can confirm it's no big deal to cross back with her as long as all the paperwork is in order?

thanks for the advice on crossing at Tecate. That's on our way anyway since we're coming from Phx.

But is the best plan to take the 1, 10, or 201?

thanks again.

It’s usually always safe but I’ve grew up driving in and out of Mexico surfing and off-roading. It’s definitely still sketchy. It all depends on what you run into. I’ve been waiting to cross back over and someone was running around the cars with a freshly cut off arm. Not sure it’s a chill place for 9 year old and dog
