Driving in the snow

In another thread someone said this behavior comes from the Torsen Diff. Makes sense because obviously Ford is able to build AWD vehicles that don't feel like this.

I haven't heard from Raptor owners without the Torsen Diff to confirm if the non-Torsen version has the same torque steer or not.

Non-Torsen Rap, I do not experience the torque steer others seem to be complaining about, and I've been in 4A a lot lately with all the snow and ice here in Michigan.

I went to Erie pa where they had up to 2 feet of snow in the parking lots. I used 4A and the truck did fine. Went through the snow like it was nothing. Now if I was not on the road I would use 4H.

Here is a picture where the snow was up to the door when I opened it. Was deeper in other areas but this was where I just happen to take a picture.

We haven’t had more than 6 inches at any one time so far this year, so I haven’t had a chance to get the truck into the deep stuff. When the snow is coming down I put it into weather mode and haven’t used anything other than 4A and I am happy with it. My normal daily drive goes from packed snow/ice to clean asphalt that has patches of packed snow and ice. The winds blow across the open areas and like to drift over the roads so the conditions are constantly changing. I just leave it in normal mode and leave 4A on and although I have noticed torque steer I just chalk that up to the trucks personality. I prefer that over having my wife jump into the truck while it is in 2WD and have the truck swap ends in a corner on our non-plowed roads. It works great in normal mode with 4A on is what I’m getting at, although ymmv!

I drove through about 14" in a field yesterday. It was real cold so the snow was pretty dry. Weather mode struggled a bit for some reason, stopped, threw it into 4H and no issues from that point.

The K02's are absolutely fantastic in the snow. What a great all around tire.

.They should call it slippery mode. It is not snow mode. You can use it in the snow

Some times its better for traction at low speeds or on hills to spin a little so 4H is better.

If i were you and was on the highway in snow going say 45mph...i would ise 4A and weather mode

Something to watch for is that when you put it into “weather” mode it will shift to 4A and feather the torque to keep your wheels from spinning as much on acceleration. However, if you turn off the truck and come back to it and re-start it, the truck remains in 4A but your throttling has returned to “normal” mode. So in short, you just need to remember to put it back to “weather” mode every time you re-start your truck if you want it to control the torque on acceleration more than “normal” mode.

Very impressed with weather mode and the KO2s in a recent snow/ice. I’d heard differing reviews on the tires in the snow, but the truck drove through like a tank.

I've been running in 4A almost exclusively and only in Normal drive mode. Don't want the Nanny mode ("Weather Mode") just yet. Weather Mode auto selects 4A but also lowers throttle response and optimizes shifting for slippery surfaces. I want full throttle response as half the time I'm stomping on the accelerator and blasting through snow drifts for fun! Wheel slippage makes for bigger clouds in the rear view mirror.

I may try Weather Mode next time I head over the Pass in slippery conditions to see how it does.

The stock tires do pretty great in snow (while they're still new)...but nothing like dedicated snow tires when things get slick or really deep. Studded Wrangler DuraTracs for the win!!
