As a firefighter I would say do not use that. If you ever get in an accident that will fly out and kill or hurt someone in the truck if they aren't bolted in somehow.

No different than anything sitting on the floor or loose inside the truck. Anyone using an iPad or laptop mount would be in the same boat. The same thing would apply to tools, groceries, etc.

Still, its a valid point. The original idea was to rely on the weight for stability and to make it easily removable so you can take it out for anything other than long trips. I have already given some thought to what you said though. I've considered having the bottom of the insert tapped/threaded as well. Basically, you'd have to drill a hole through the rubber cupholder insert and through the console. Then you could use a single bolt with a large washer that bolts in from the bottom. Once you remove the lid, the top portion of the console actually lifts up easily so it wouldn't be tough to do. What do you think off the idea?

The downside would obviously be that the whole setup wouldn't be easily removable but you could still remove the bolts on the top to take off the upper portion of the mount. I think it makes good sense to have the bottom threaded to at least give people the option of bolting them in. Of course, doing that would also add to the cost. Initial feedback has been that the cost is probably too high already to get it made at a price point where demand would be solid.

Keep the feedback coming guys. I still might bite the bullet and have a few sets of these made

Any way this could be intergrated to work in the front cup holders? Maybe i missed something but this could be a great way to mount an i pad for offraoding since it will be in the front of the cab. Also people could try and mount other GPS devieces from it. Just wondering since it seems like it would work well.

The front cupholders are much smaller. The same idea would work but they'd have to be a different size.

Velcro.
Boom secure, yet easily removable.

Well, you have to use Velcro on the console itself and remove the rubber cup holder inserts. That would ruin the fitment and the vibration dampening. If you just put Velcro on the bottom of the rubber insert, then it would come out with the metal cup holder mount.

Use some type of teather system in bottom part of the console. Get a really small wire cable of some sort, you just need to keep it from flying around inside the cab. Go thru the cup holder to a mount bolt inside the console. That was you cant see it and you only need a tiny hole.

Well this may seem a bit off-the-wall, but a U-flow seal would work.
Your mount would be sized to fit inside the seal, the seal then goes in the cupholder. As the screws are tightened, the lower portion expands to make a tight seal.

I don't know how good it would look, but it should function and stay in place.

If your going to bolt them down, you could use some type of billet pvc to make them. They would be lighter , I'm not sure if bolting the metal ones down would hold up in a rollover or hard crash. Would it break the plastic its mounted to ?

I'm not being critical, just throwing out ideas
