Any time there is a trade-in factored into the deal, the "discount" is no longer valid. I spent two weeks in the Houston area looking for a Raptor and once they learned I had no trade, the best I could get was $1500 under MSRP.

Not sure why people are so quick to disbelieve it when someone gets a better deal than them. Without a doubt under MSRP deals happening and some of those will almost certainly reach $5k under if the dealer is motivated to move a Raptor for any number of reasons. Someone will always get a better deal than you. Be happy for the guy and enjoy your truck.

Don't really have to prove it....but here are how the numbers rolled. Don't have the papers in front of me....I bought a 2018, fully loaded Raptor...only thing I think it is missing is the orange accents.

Sticker price.............$70,550
Discount .............. (5,000)

Trade-in............... (13,550)

Taxes.................. 3,380

Total .................. $55,380

Actual Drive out was $55,500 so I am missing some misc. fees. I financed 55,000 at 2.75%.

Dealership was Kinsel Ford in Beaumont, Texas.....I went in not really needing to buy and knowing there were 7 other Raptors on 3 other local lots. I had no real need to trade in my truck though the truck was getting long on miles and was 2012. I knew what I needed to drive out at. I left the evening before, came back the next day...they gave me another number and I told them to look at what I was driving....it runs good and I don't need to buy today and was walking to my truck when sales manager gave me another number that was in ballpark....I stated I wanted to drive out at 55,000 and he managed to get to 55,500. Likely I got screwed somewhere but we were all happy at end of day and I could afford the truck.....end of story.

thanks for posting, I was curious on how it worked out! Seems like dealers give the deeper discounts for more optioned out trucks.

FWIW Kinsel does have a silver Raptor on their site with $4700 off of MSRP. It does make Velocity's statement seem very accurate.

It is not that I disbelieve him, I was simply pointing out a trade-in allows the dealer to move money from the trade to the discount. Dealers know that most buyers have trades, so the savvy ones will ask up front about your trade before they get down to their final price. I am always vague about my trade, or lack of a trade, in the early stages of the negotiation, but then reveal my true intent once I get numbers that are close to what I want to spend.

I have pulled my trade out of the deal at the last minute and had dealers say their discounted price was based on the perceived value of my trade, so the original deal was no longer valid. Since I am not an emotional buyer, I just take my business elsewhere.

On my Gen 2 and my previous 5 new trucks, I negotiated the entire deal over email without talking to a person or stepping foot into the dealership until I take delivery. Using this method, it is very easy to find out who is full of BS and who really wants to sell me a truck for a price I want to pay.

And to answer your other point, I am happy he got a great deal and I really enjoy the new features the Gen 2 has to offer over my Gen 1...

I posted last year that I was looking for a under msrp deal on a order. A few members on here posted that I was "nuts" a "dreamer" and other nonsense about not being able to afford one. Meanwhile I found multiple dealers in 48 hours with only a few phone calls. I purchased my truck truck at 1000 over invoice in state. I purchased 2 sets of wheels, exhaust, a front bumper and some other small parts with my "savings". With that said I would have gladly paid msrp to avoid a wait but 802a scabs with orange interiors/carbon, minus stickers and sunroofs are non existent on lots. Believe me I was looking until my truck had a vin.
Deals are definitely out there is you look. Like I said in a earlier post I've seen a dealer discounting off MSRP in Texas 2 months ago and he still had 2 available as of a week ago.
Unfortunately those deals seem nonexistent on the west coast. Good luck in your search.

Just locked in $2500 off MSRP /w no dealer doc fees here on a Spec order 2019. I think it's a fair deal.. not to mention, they'll be getting first shot at making me a deal on my next purchase.. Some GM's/dealers are smart enough to play the long game.

I'm happy he got the truck and just wanted proof of the deal so that way I have some ammunition when I purchase mine. If I tell the salesman that people are getting trucks for 5k under sticker, it might help me get some extra dollars of my purchase.

It really is a just a numbers game with a trade in however. I could probably get 60k under sticker if I traded in my truck and took $0 for my trade in.
