Do you ever use "M" shifting mode or stay in "D"?

I'm pretty sure these things have DFCO, i.e., Deceleration Fuel Cutoff as part of their PCM programming. Under engine braking with torque converter engaged, you should be getting no gas in the cylinders. Don't think fouled plugs are going to be a concern.

I use the M mode quite a bit for braking and accelerating, especially in bumper to bumper traffic and around ********.

HEY I resemble that remark! HAhaha. Me too, I just use the button to lock out the gears I don't want, Up Down Up Down Down REEEEEEEEERRRRRR! HAhahaaaaaaaaaaa. Had a good time last eve with everyone. Need to make it a monthly thing some where out north of DFW airport, knda in the middle.

Cure to fouled plugs:

Use the gas pedal more aggressively.

On another note, I've been meaning to ask the 2011 owners with the M option - does it shift when you tell it to? Every slapshift or button shift vehicle I've had or rented in the past 2 years doesn't shift when the button is pressed. We had another thread a long time ago where Bimmer, Merc, Jeep, Chev - all owners expressed the same thing - press the button when flooring it and it will shift when it damn well pleases.

So, is Ford's setup on the 2011's any better? Anyone played with it?

In "M" shifting mode the transmission wont shift up automatically on you and will allow downshifting at any speed (within limits, no dropping into 1st at 80 mph).
As for engine braking (using engine torque) to slow the Raptor, it works great! I actually, prefer using "M" mode for hill descent, verse nanny hill descent.

Fouling spark plugs from compression/engine braking....
I highly doubt it, since the Raptor is drive by wire, and fuel injected. If there is no throttle input, the computer will manage the fuel, it is not like a carb. An over-revved, carbureted engine with a closed throttle draws excessive fuel through its idle circuit, fouling the plugs.

It's not as timely as, say, a Ferrari and it's nano-second shifting time between button/paddle press and tranny movement but it's pretty close. I'd say that it's always less than a 1 second delay. It's a truck and not a sports car where shifting point is crucial around the track, so I'm happy with it.
