Okay, as requested I went ahead and took some pics of this install. Overall, its super easy and shouldn't take anyone more the an hour or so. The new look is way cleaner and I am happy with the results.

I'm not gonna post a link to the product I used, but you can easily search Google or Amazon 'Socket Adapter Dual USB' and get infinite results. On to the install, and if anyone has questions ill try my best to answer.

Caveat- If you end up blowing a fuse by touching the wires together, its fuse number 6 (20 amp). Might be a good idea to either disconnect negative battery terminal or pull the fuse prior to install. I blew my fuse during install as I was trying to get some pics during and hadn't heat shrinked yet haha. The 20 amp fuse next to number 6 can be used as a replacement if necessary, its for the other cigarette lighter.

Install time : 1 hour

Cost: 14 bucks

Tools needed:

Socket adapter
7mm socket
Plastic trim removal tool
Wire stripper/crimp tool
Heat shrink/electric tape
Dremmel

here, on frf
there are tabs that hold in the metal piece for the 12v socket. then it slides right out. you dont need to cut the 2 tabs off. unless you dont care about saving the piece

I wasn't able to get clearance to push the tabs and spent a bunch of time trying to push them in to slide it out to no avail. I wasn't going to reuse the piece so I decided to just dremmel it out

I did a similar install this pass weekend, I was able to pop the 12v socket out sans a Dremel - although it took some time and effort. It's a great mod and although getting the unit out of the dash is sort of pain, it's pretty easy install afterwards.

Very clean install, nice job. Is it just about a faster charge? I plug into the factory USB ports for CarPlay and haven't had any issues with charging my iPhone X along the way.

More or less. I'm upgrading to a 13 inch screen and never use android auto. So fast charge, no more 1980 cigarette lighter adapter sticking out. One less thing to carry in the car and overall I thinkn its a way cleaner look

Makes sense. I'm always up for cool and clean projects and have zero need for a cigarette lighter outlet. This will definitely go on the list.
