been doing 5 tire rotations. So the tires still have at least 10k worth of tread left.

But the truck rides like shit. changes behavior at 60mph....smooths out at 75mph....rides like shit again at 80mph. leads me to believe I need to get balanced.

Do I spend the $130 to get the tires balanced and risk it not being the issues, or just bite the bullet and get 5 new tires a little early?

The tires are most likely out of spec for Road Force; a Hunter Road Force balance should be able to resolve the vibration issues. All Ford dealers should be equipped with a modern Road Force Balance machine.

I would agree with getting them road force balanced, I have had issues with 25k mi BFG`s and it always was a balancing issue. Tape on weights suck if not put on right and even then the tend to leave the seen. I have used Gaffer tape strips over my wheel weights to try to keep them on a little longer and it has helped.

Trying this will do at least 2 things, one would be to see if the tires being rebalanced and rotated help solve the problem or is there a different problem?

The other thing it would do is buy you some time to do some tire research based on what your going to use your truck for, and also to see what other forum members are using other than BFG`s and how they like them. Everyone has an opinion on tires but even the ones that are called out as the worst tires are still being used by other people with success. Check out Tire Racks tire ratings for each brand and series, this way you can see how they worked on several of the same vehicles and how the good and bad was in real life use.

Yeah, I think my ko2s were toast at 30k miles, I'm at 37k on duratracs, which will be toast by 40k miles.

The only concern I’d have with throwing tires at the problem would be that may mask a possible bent or out of round wheel. I had an exploder with a wheel that was out of spec and when it was up front it made the whole truck shake.

that said, at 34k you’ve likely heat cycled them pretty well, the stick is probably gone too even though you have tread.

pull them, take them to the closest tannerite friendly range and launch ‘em with about 2-4 pounds. Don’t get greedy, if you go higher than 4 pounds you could be sending stuff flying outwards, rather than launching the tires upwards.

That was the glorious send off I gave my Lightning F1’s.

Now that is a proper send off! Personally I would like to see that in action, can't blow up stuff in NJ anymore. Not like the good old days. My ex lived in upper MI, Marquette and Autrain where they had 20 plus acres of hunting land and what a great place to ride, shoot and other fun stuff...

I like motorcycle tires the best, they’re very light and get a lot of altitude. The F1’s went up pretty far too, but the bottom tire in the stack was disintegrated.

My wife had a set of Goodyears on her Nissan Murano that were some seriously tough tires. There were .30 and 8mm projectiles stuck in the belt of these things. They had to be softened up a bit before launching.

Put the fronts on the back and the back on the fronts one last time and get the winter out of them, don't do the normal tire rotation as this is your last one, then get new tires, why waste money on balancing now when you know its not going to help enough. See if this helps first anyway as it won't cost you anything to rotate the tires yourself.
