This also probably goes without saying, make sure only OEM Ford Factory parts are used in the repair. None of that approved insurance equal BS.

Took my truck to a dealer for an oil change, power inverter fan noise, clicking muffler and the recall. One of their workers was pulling another truck out that was parked next to mine and swiped my truck's rear bumper causing damage. I have not seen it yet, but definitely P I S S E D off.
What would you tell them?

Just out of curiosity. Is this the same dealership you purchased the vehicle from? I’m sure this will weigh into how much they will cater to you.

I would at least want it back to factory new parts regardless of how minimal the scratch is. Also a courtesy vehicle would be expected.

Unless they are willing to not only fix it to as good as new AND keep it off carfax or any other reporting agency... (I'd probably ask for some sweeteners as well, free maintenance coupons, or something like that). If they arent' willing to do that and they are going to have their insurance pay for it. Then you need to reach out to a local company that does diminished value claims. You are not only owed what the fix repairs are, but a cash payout for the loss in value b/c of an accident report. And on a car this expensive where structural integrity is a premium... I'm guessing that's no small chunk of change.

No, this is not the same dealership I bough it from. It is always my understanding that dealers make all their money off of service. I would think it wouldn't matter if I bought my car from them or not, they should treat me the same if I am going to use them for service.

It would be one thing if the service manager / advisor / tech / porter was out getting high and doing donuts in baja mode, and spun into a light post or telephone pole. But this seems like an honest, albeit careless mistake.

The stealership is at least pretending to want to make it right and I’m sure they will with your help.

don’t go nuclear, life is too short for letting stuff like this eat at you.
OTOH, previous posters have given you some really good advice.

1) get pictures - your own pictures.
2) replace, do not repair the tail light.
3) go over expectations up front with the service mangler.
-- if you don’t want it in carfax, that’s probably going to put you in between their insurance carrier and you, particularly if you want receipts. And you will, just in case months down the road you have a mysterious DTC occur that traces back to that repair.
4) any paint repair should be optically perfect, you shouldn’t even be able to tell with a magnifying glass there was anything done.
5) No peasant cars while this is being fixed. They can put you up in a quality ride.

Pi$$ poor customer service has been amplified over the last 2 years with the universal excuse of China Virus. Here, the stealership has had some adversity but they look to be trying to do the right thing.

Be gracious and work with them and if they follow through and handle it the right way, make sure they know about it. Everyone and every company makes mistakes. How they react to and correct the mistakes is what really defines them.

I thought the same thing- I WAS one of those service jockey guys @ a big Toyota dealer back in the day & I unfortunately had a similar mishap damaging a new vehicle that was down in the lower parking garage of the place where they did all the detailing & pre delivery prep. It was a summer job in between college freshman year, the kind of guys doing those jobs @ dealers are young kids trying to earn an honest buck or someone just taking whatever steady job they can get to pay the rent. There’s usually a ton of pressure all day at dealers w/ the sales guys pressuring the service/tech guys to make 2 hr jobs 1 hr jobs & then pressuring the finance guys to shove the loan through etc etc

They do make money off of service but it has been my experience they are more willing to bend over backwards for a client that purchased there vehicle from them. Ie free loaner car etc. remember this work is coming from there pockets. Not a warranty or paid for service. They may only give so much.

They have plenty of business from service alone but if they can make money off of you coming and going it makes the whole experience a little smoother.
