I’m getting a loud crackle from the passenger side engine area during cold starts. Also during moderate acceleration I’m hearing a fluttering type sound.

Any ideas?

Exhaust leak? Exhaust gasket?

I had a similar sound but from the drivers side. Took it into the dealer and found out it was leaking around the exhaust manifold where it hooks up to exhaust pipe. Apparently was loose. Needed to be properly tightened. It was this way right from new. Somehow got missed during PDI inspection.

Same here on my 24 R. About 1,000 miles on it now and started noticing around 500 miles.

Sounds to me like the butterfly valve in the exhaust system rattles on cold start.
My suspicion is biased by my experience with my 22 Raptor having this condition but far worse. It was fixed through a Service Bulletin for a known issue at the time.

On my R, it rattles once at cold start and then only returns on the next cold start. Even with a restart after warm, there’s no rattle.

If yours is persisting, you probably have a good case for having a local ford dealership repair it under warranty. I haven’t checked but perhaps there’s another service bulletin out there.

Good luck!

I have the same. They change the catalyst this week. Bur i can guarantee that it doesnt solve the issue.

I made the following test:

- restart car when it rattles > keep rattles
- change drive mode when it rattles > keep rattles
- change to 4 auto when it rattles > keep rattles
- driving reverse when it rattles > it does not rattle!!!

They thought that the honeycomb in the catalyst is loose and therefore they‘ll change the catalyst this week.

They also think it could be those electric diffs (or what they are) in the front wheels.

I had my new raptor r for over 4 weeks in total at the dealer, but they dont figure it out.

I have a partial update. Ford Mexico exchanged my catalyst. They thought the honeycomb inside is loose. Well the problem still exist.

They inspected my Raptor R again and now they think its the starter motor (what i’ve told them since the beginning). They order it and should be installed beginning of january….lets see

Your noise is different from mine and the others I’ve heard. It seems the majority of people with the rattle only experience it on cold starts only and goes away after cranked. It only lasts a brief second when cranked.
