Clunking sound on Gen 3 too

My shock clunk saga has come to an end. All four shocks replaced. Less than four did not get rid of the clunk. The noise from the rears reverberates enough where it drowns out any clunk from the front.

So in your opinion, replacing all 4 shocks fixed it? I'm at a standstill with the dealer. They said they used the chassis ears on the front, but could not hear anything. I can still hear it. I was thinking of buying my own set of ears to see if I can recreate the issue and get it on video, or even leave my set on and take the service manager for a test drive.

Yes. I mean there will always be some noise when you hit bumps from things that aren’t even the shocks, but the clunk that was so loud that you could feel it is gone. The way my driveway is when I back out each wheel hops down to the street at a different time. So I’d hear the one corner that didn’t get replaced for longer clunk everyday. The clunk is easy to replicate with the truck not even moving. When I took it in I just laid under the rear bumper and pushed the thing up and down to make the noise. The same works with the front but the weight makes it harder.

That said, the way these shocks are designed they will never be 100% quiet. Too many moving bits inside. If they were 100% quiet I would be concerned the shock got neutered to appease people on noise. Doing the bounce the bumpers up and down test they still make a faint noise, but it is not to the extent where it can be heard or felt from inside the truck and that’s really what matters.

I just purchased a 2023 37PP with 580 miles on it now. I currently feel the "thumping" feeling in the steering wheel and floor. It's currently at the dealer. I took the two main techs and shop foreman on a test ride, and they all felt the thumping. The tech said he posted this issue on their tech line and waiting to see if anyone has some input before taking things apart. I told him I believe it's the suspension/shocks. I will call them Monday and follow up.

I have noticed that it seems to start when the truck is driven for a bit/warmed up (maybe suspension cycling heat). I feel it when taking off from a complete stop, coming to a stop and when the suspension cycles up from a nice smooth dip.
Update: 09-02-23: Still waiting for the lower steering shaft to come in (Ford told the tech to change the lower steering shaft). I don't believe it's going to fix the issue. I think it's the shocks.

I moved from a 35 gen 3 with the verified clunk (I was waiting on parts until I traded it in) to a 37pp with the clunk again. If I was a betting man I would say that nearly all of these truck have the cluck from a certain time frame it just depends if the owners notice it or not. Some people will drive a week on a flat without even knowing it so I can only assume many just don't notice.

My friend just picked up his new Gen 3 - 37pp. I drove his and it also has the same clunk/thump in the steering wheel. I dropped off my truck to the dealer for them to replace the lower steering shaft as Ford recommended.

Did you have to leave the truck with them until the part comes in? I am feeling the same thing. Did they say whether it’s an inconvenience or something that could cause damage if not addressed immediately?

I picked up the truck and drove it for the time being. It won’t cause any damage if driven. They called and said the part is on so I took it back. I’ll call for an update tomorrow.
