Mine requires me to unplug and replug the cable every 15-20 minutes. I don’t use it much.
Had this same issue as well. New cable solved the issue.

I’m sure I have an Apple lightning cable somewhere. I’ll swap it out.Had this same issue as well. New cable solved the issue.
Will try and let y’all know if it helpsTry turning off USB restricted mode on your iPhone. It seems to have solved my Car Play connection issues. YMMV

I’ve been holding the power and fast forward button to do a soft reset when it doesn’t connect. along with plugging it in towards the end of the raptor logo. I usually have to reset once a day but it doesn’t change any settings or radio presets so it’s not too bad.
Just got a 2020 a week ago. Took it out for a long drive and had plenty my of screen time. I had the same issues as you did.
Here’s what fixed it. You have to wait a few minutes after starting the car before plugging in the USB cable. I think the Sync OS is still loading drivers/services that allow Apple play to work.
I had 100% success by giving it a few more minutes before using the cable.
