I have an '18 Raptor. Purchased new. Had cam phasers replaced around 20K miles and just had them replaced again at 31K. Service tech said if I change my oil every 5K instead of waiting on the truck to tell me it's time, it won't happen again. Not optimistic.

Sounds like you got the old service stock part number the first time around instead of the later revised design.

My wife's 2018 Lariat never had a checked engine light and most phasers issues do not produce a check engine light. In my case I sent my dealership a video and they responded right away with it is the cam phasers so bring it in and we will confirm and then order parts.

I got an excuse today also saying since it does not have a check engine light it most likely not it.

Dropped my truck off today

Well made an account just to post here... I bought a 2017 Raptor two days ago with 32k miles. I was acquainted with the sales guy so I trusted him when he said this "sound" I heard was a normal Raptor sound and not to worry. Additionally upon paperwork they said this was a CPO and had been completely gone through and was in perfect mechanical condition. Also I had a 100k warranty should I have any issues. So, piece of mind.
However... after spending ALL DAY reading this thread yesterday I am 99% sure this truck absolutely has this issue... See the two links below. First video is a cold start. Second video is a separate tick/knock that becomes noticeable after the engine is warmed up. Related issues I'm guessing. What do you all think?

Your first video is definitely phasers. Sounded just like mine which was also a CPO “in perfect condition.”

I’ll let someone else chime in on the 2nd video as mine didn’t sound like that.

Welcome to FRF. You’ll find a ton of invaluable information on this forum.

IMO...the first video documents the classic cam phaser issue. The second video depicts a wastegate issue. Being that you own a 2017 Raptor...both issues can be resolved by TSBs at no cost to you. You can still drive your Raptor until you can schedule the work.

Good Luck and enjoy your ride.

I have the same exact issue you have. I dropped the truck off this morning.
The dealer just called me and told me that’s normal sound for the truck. :33:

I know it’s BS going to the next dealer.

The first one is SSM 48168
But I haven't actually heard of one for the wastegate issue, that second video.... If it is for sure that.

Unfortunately, I didn't even get a chance to post the details of my first failure (46k) before the second occurred at 47k. A couple weeks ago, I took her in for an oil change and mentioned the rattle. 2 weeks later, the oil change was finished along with the latest cam phaser update.

I am having a tough time with this. I absolutely love that truck, but I can't come to grips with what is going on. I was stranded 200 miles from nowhere when the engine failed. The worst part is, Ford and Enterprise are so spooked by the media (i.e. COVID) that they would rather leave you stranded in the rain in the middle of nowhere than give you a ride to somewhere safe. I'm having trouble seeing how I can trust this vehicle again.
