The TSB does not just standardize labor operations. It is also used to release updated / upgraded parts. When Ford announced that a TSB was coming in Q4 2019, it was stated new parts would be ready. Clearly, they are not.

Nowhere in the SSM does it state that new parts will be released with the TSB.

SSM 48272 - 2017-2018 F-150, 2018-2019 Expedition/Navigator - 3.5L EcoBoost - Ticking/Tapping Or Rattle Type Noise On Start Up After A Cold Soak

Some 2017-2018 F-150s built on or before 10-Jul-2018 and 2018-2019 Expedition and Navigator built on or before 8-Apr-2019 with 3.5L EcoBoost may exhibit tick, tap, or rattle type noises from top of engine front cover for 2-5 seconds after a cold start. A TSB is expected to be published late 4th quarter 2019. In the interim, replace all 4 VCT units and update the PCM calibration. Do not replace other cam drive related components unless inspection identifies a concern. Refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-01. Claim labor replace VCTs using published labor operations and PCM programming using M-time. Part availability is currently limited. Dealers should order parts only when required to complete a repair. Once the parts are ordered, the vehicle may be returned to the customer to drive. This condition does not affect long term durability or performance.

Thanks- unfortunately my budget forces me into 17/18 years.

I misquoted the build date...build date cutoff for F-150 was 7/10/2018. So any truck after that date will have the updated phasers. Perhaps that widens your budget somewhat.

Wow - you are missing the point. Ford stated a TSB was coming in Q4. What you quoted from also indicates that new parts are coming.

WOW! This is some real misleading stuff. What in the heck are you talking about here? If you follow your logic and roll back to 7/10/2018, your point of "all phasers good after that" is complete crap. There are plenty here with build dates after that which have the problem. I guess I can't change your mind. Sounds like all phasers are still bad, and there is still nothing new for dealers to install.

So, buyers really need to know that all 3.5 cam phasers on the raptor are suspect to failure. There is no new design, and nothing being replaced will fix it.

Ford tech one- please don’t listen to Kuan. I suspect Kuan is the latest incarnation of the same troll who has gone by various names on this forum and has been repeatedly banned once he is outed. But I could be wrong.......

In any event, please do not stop contributing to this forum. I suspect I am not the only one who greatly appreciated your input.

Here is what mine sound like on a cold start - 7,000 miles.

yup. Same sound as mine but yours is, by far, much MUCH louder than mine.

If people are saying they don't even have "my" sound, then I am sure I'll have the issue in the future. Sucks.

Anyone have a video, with mic right up to the front of your engine, cold engine for a couple of days, without the sound (second gen only please)?

I think you need to take a break from this thread, for your mental health. Your truck sounds nothing like that latter one. Mine has sounded like yours since new, as far as I can tell, over 36k miles now.
I have been around, and frequently driven, a truck that has the phaser rattle on cold starts. You don't have it.

Funny thing with mine is sometimes it sounds like that (loud enough to hear in the cab with the door shut) and other times is just slightly noticable like his video.
