Did your engine grenade, or did they just fix it? My dealer said to just let it blow up since they figured the wait for service would be forever. They said if I wait, new parts might be available.

We definitely need to know who is giving this advice. so which Autonation?

Dealer just closed out my paperwork from a few weeks back with the troubleshooting they did to allow for the Cam Phaser replacement. What was interesting was where in the checklist that it had a note to verify oil level, and verify that it has a Motorcraft Oil Filter on it.....Ive only put about 100 miles on mine in the last few weeks, but I have had several times of letting it sit for 3-4 days between cranks.. So far no noises.
That is interesting. When I talked to my dealer, he said to bring all my service paperwork and receipts. I am assuming somewhere in the fine print they have an out if u aren’t using Ford oil and filters...

They want to confirm you use the oem filter because not all oil filters have an anti drainback in them.

I've always used the OEM filter on my vehicles just so there was never any finger pointing. My Uncle used to own a ford dealership and he told me many years ago that he had seen several engines ford replace at 70,80,90K miles because the owner could show the oil change history on it, and they also had the Ford Filters on them when they were checked. This was 25 years ago, but I have always stuck to that philosophy. I lucked out this time as I had bought the Raptor used from a Lexus Dealer, but they had changed the oil and did all the maintenance on it and they had used a Ford Filter. I actually looked at the truck to verify it before I took it to the dealer. I didn't know that this was even looked at by them, but I am glad it did have the Ford Filter. The also detailed out that as part of the check procedure, they cranked a new truck with the same engine to verify the noise was not there, then took a stethoscope to listen at the front cover of the engine on each side. Then it said they called in to get authorization after all the steps including checking for an OEM filter......

Good that you didn’t take the bad advice previously posted of “run it until it blows up”.

I hope the fix works for you!

Got my truck back today after 115 days at the dealer! I’ll post the parts/numbers list when they get emailed to me.

Im very interested in what was wrong with your truck and what they changed to fix it because my truck is making THE EXACT SAME NOISE...rattle after light throttle blip.

Hoping someone on this thread can tell me if this sounds like an issue. My ‘19 Rap has less than 2k miles. Starting from the beginning, when the truck is warm there is a loud noise that comes from the engine and causes a vibration in the pedals. I took this vid but not sure how helpful it is. The noise/vibration comes and goes when the engine is warm. I thought maybe it was the AC motor but does it even when the AC is off. The cam phaser issue sounds different and happen at cold start, so I’m assuming that not it, but thought you all might know. Or is this normal?

My truck is a 2018. Had it since new and has 18,500 miles on it. Started making a loud noise coming from the motor on cold start ups, no noise on start ups when the motor was warmed up. Took it in to the dealer and they said it was a cam phaser issue. Took 2 weeks to get the truck back after waiting for parts to arrive and labor, everything covered by warranty. One week later, truck started making the same sound again on cold start ups, took it back in to the dealer. Dealer said the first time they only replaced 1 cam phaser but now we’re going to replace all 3 remaining cam phasers they didn’t replace previously. They also replaced the actual cam shafts and timing chain as well. I don’t know why they did that but I wasn’t complaining, everything was under warranty. Took another two weeks of waiting on parts and labor to get the truck back. Don’t know if the new cam phasers they installed are updated parts or exactly the same style phasers as before. Having these problems makes me not want to tune the truck so if this problem comes up again it won’t be out of warranty because of a tune!
