Cam Phaser/Engine Failure Reports

The bottom line is that there is a risk. Probably small if the TSB applies to your truck, but a risk nonetheless. It wouldn't be enough of a risk to stop me from tuning, but that a personal decision only you can make based on your risk tolerance.

I agree on that. There’s also the option of bringing it to another dealer then, if denied... but once denied, aren’t you “blacklisted” by all dealers in their database or someone made that up?

Picked up my truck tonight and saw the parts invoice that the cashier said was being charged to Ford Warranty - $2800 in parts alone. Not the retail price for the parts, I'm sure.
18 days in the service bay, who knows how much labor there was.
The retail price of a repair like this would be huge.
Glad for the warranty, but not happy it took 18 days to do it.
I had to pay for the full synthetic oil change, that was it.

My parts were no where near $2800. It was like $400 (i have to double check my receipt but the bulk was labor.). I am not sure why you had so many parts replaced.

Dropped my 17 off at Galpin Ford in So-Cal, they said it is a 2 month wait period as there is 50 truck in front of me waiting for this fix (gulp)!

Well, they should have the repair fairly well sorted by time they get to your truck - that's the good news anyways. I had to wait an extra 5 days (including a weekend) because the mechanic broke the only waterpump gasket in CA, apparently!

That was me. Parts were only 300-400. the rest was labor.

Someone else on this thread mentioned that it is a $4k repair.

So do you guys think Ford's new phaser design is a long term fix?

I fell like they are band-aiding this and will move to a new engine before it's ever fully resolved. That's kinda Ford's MO.

You might be right with that. Looking back, ford has had this same "we have a fix" if you look back in history of this. How many different times had ford said they fixed this problem? in typical ford fashion, this engine is at the end of its run based on how many years it has been out. There is so much talk of the 4.8 engine and I wonder if that is what ford might be slotting in place of this.
