Wanted to report in that I may be joining the club experiencing the rattle, with my 2018 SCREW manufactured 9/17 it occurs not only at startup but under conditions identical to TSB 18-2354. I'll be heading into the dealer this Thursday for diagnosis. Here is what mine sounds like.

I had this exact noise, they replaced the solenoids for the VCTs and it went away.

I'll certainly ask, any suggestions for encouraging them to replace the engine? The vehicle has been consuming about .5-.75 qt of oil every 1000 miles which I have had two different dealers claim is within specification.

Get the updated valve covers, my consumption went to zero.

So in addition to the phasers, you had the timing chain tensioners replaced, but not the chain, plus 2 cams and sprockets.

And, this has been done in previous repairs, so it makes you wonder why they’re replacing the cams?

I think the word "cam" is ambiguous in their list of items. I believe it is referring to the cam phaser assembly which includes the cam sprocket and phasers, usually an assembly at the end of the camshafts.

At the bottom it kind of repeats the parts again but I believe that is referring to the work performed of said above parts list.

It seems if the issue is caught and corrected early enough, the chain is not affected? While in there, they should replace all parts related or even remotely related to this issue. Why is Ford being so cheap about this? These are major engine components.

Got my wife's 2018 Lariat back today. Give me the part for the chain and I can tell you whether mine was replaced.

edited: my parts list shows HL3Z-6268-A (2) were replaced. This is the timing chain.

Yup. That's the chain. $50.00 to buy an OEM one brand new. Absolutely no reason not to replace that while the front end is open.

What's the year and miles on the Lariat?

2018 at 16,500 miles. Picked it up this morning from the dealership and 16 miles later, I get a check engine light. GRRRRR!
