Texted the service manager about my wife's 2018 Lariat with the 3.5 EB and as I suspected the phasers are bad. I was told parts are ordered and it should be in after july 4th. I don't understand why some folks were told parts are on back order until August? I guess I will find out soon enough if my parts come in the near future or not

I was given the parts that were ordered. See below.

Maybe different phaser since it's a normal EB and not the HO EB?

Waiting on Ford to contact me on buy back today. Bought the truck May 2 had it 3 weeks and is now at my Ford Dealer waiting on Phasers that are back order till August. I am very disappointed and when the Ford Rep told me Ford may buy it back I figured might as well see what happens. In the mean time i made my first payment on a truck Ive only driven 3 weeks.

I was thinking of looking for 18s thinking the Cam Phaser issue was with 17 model but seems like that isn't the case. So might move away from Ford for a while. Thing that upsets me the most is I really like the truck and there isn't anything else out there I want.

disconnecting the VCT should eliminate the noise if it is the cam phasers making the noise correct? i have a noise at startup but also noticed i can replicate the noise by going to manual mode with ebrake set and flipping between 1 and 2. everytime i shift i get the exact noise. So i disconnected all VCT and im still getting the noise. Seems like its coming from the transmission. Ryan, Am i correct on disconnecting the VCT to verify if the noise is still there? Thank you.

When you say disconnect do you mean unplugging the solenoids?

For those that have this problem let the engine crank without letting the truck crank over and build oil pressure. Then let it fire over. You can do this with foot on gas to the floor. You will pre oil and build oil pressure getting rid of the cold start sound. You will not dilute fuel as injectors and ignition will not fire.
