Every once in a while a bad one squeaks through. Just ask your parents. They are probably upstairs wringing their hands and gnashing their teeth right now.

You know, I was out running errands in the Rap... I swore I heard the tell tale sound of a pimp slap, off in the distance.

Sure enough. :bowroflwerd6:

Good afternoon everyone!

I just purchased my 17' with 48k miles on 12/30/19 and really wish I would've found this thread sooner. I had joined a FB page and kept seeing people talk about cam phasers. Then one day, someone posted a video and I noticed the sound was exactly like mine (almost sounds like marbles in a glass jar). I'd never owned a turbo charged vehicle and figured maybe that was normal.

Long story short after reading through about 58 pages of this thread I figured I probably needed to get it checked out but was worried with all the horror stories I've been reading here about down time, etc.

I live in Tampa, Florida so I took it to Brandon Ford (about 10 minutes from my house. I did not buy the truck from them, I purchased from a GMC dealership in about 45 minutes away). They're supposedly the largest F-Series and Ford Dealer in the world now. They always took care of me with my 11' Fx2 Screw so I figured maybe they could work some magic if anyone could.

My service advisor Shaun had me bring it in the night before so it could cold soak throughout the night and they could start it first thing in the morning. Almost immediately they knew it was the phasers. He got the parts on order (without me even asking) and has me scheduled to come in the 10th so they can do the repair. All covered under what's left of the factory warranty and they're going to hook me up with a rental car thank goodness. I was getting kind of nervous because the dealership I bought it from changed the oil and didn't use a Motorcraft filter and I saw something on here about that being in their checklist.

He said the repair would only take a few days so as soon as it gets done, I'll let you all know how it went. Maybe this is a sign that lead times are improving on the parts needed? I sure hope so.

Just wanted to update the group. Thank you to everyone for all of this information throughout the thread. It has been very helpful.

Here's a couple of pictures (in addition to my profile picture) of the ride.

I thought my Raptor was special, that this only happens to other Raptors....

2019 screw 802a stock 15kmiles.

goes in on the 31st.

according to the Ford service guy a TSB was to come out by 12/31/19 but never did.

My 2019 went in on Friday 1/31, given a loaner F150 and picked up my finished Raptor today 2/4. 2 business days.

I was initially very concerned with all the horrible stories. But this wasn’t the case for me, no big deal really... Quickly fixed, no long wait on parts and got my truck back in a very reasonable amount of time.

Yes, I would’ve liked this issue to have never come up. But, for me it was no big deal. Hope my experience will ease some of the hysteria out there.

Appreciate you posting this. There were questions of 2019s having this issue and I've seen 3 new people with late 2019 builds that have it. So there really is no fix for it. Very strange.

There's a way to figure out the exact build date. Probably on the Ford site but I couldn't find it even though it shows me the correct model when I log in.

Do you know what month in 2019 yours was built and how many miles?

EXPECT A TSB IN 4TH QUARTER 2019. My dealer advised to have mine repaired with out a TSB said he's seen this go on for years."If you have a 800 or a 801 package look at your dash in the center defrost area by the windshield, that defect has been there since 2015." As long as new trucks are selling they are focused on pushing them out. He showed me a stack of repair orders for cam phasers said many have been done two to three times. This should not be happening on this expensive of a truck. Shame on you Ford.

That's all well and good as long as it's under warranty.

Us "Gen 1 naysayers" have been saying all along that this engine is going to be a POS in the long run, and that nobody will want a Gen 2 that is out of warranty.

"Nobody" meaning lots of people still obviously, but the ongoing phaser issues are going to put a huge dent in the value because buyers have to factor in a likely $3K phaser job, and maybe more than once. Cam phasers in Gen 2 Raptor are not an easy fix, and are not something most guys can bang out in their garage.

Ford has to get this fixed or the reputation of the Gen 2 trucks is going to go in the *******. The good thing is it's a current engine, and it's used in more than just the Raptor, so I'd bet at some point they will come up will a part that will last.
