I have the afe with the dry washable filter I just bought two so I can change it if it get's to dirty on a run. Being able to wash it why mess with anything else. on sdbr we hit a few mud holes and the afe was still good when I washed it it was dirty but not that dirty.

I can understand more air, but the plenum opening is the plenum opening. No matter how big the tube, it still goes through there. As for less turbulence, it seems like there is more with the current CAI's given the pedal vibration that you get from an AFE ( and maybe others). I'm no scientist, so I am just taking a guess here. It's just my impression. Seems like a good drop in, besides the high end filters, would accomplish the same air flow.

The aftermarket pipes are smoother on the inside resulting in smoother air flow. And yes, you could potentially get an intake tube that's so large it's irrelevant, but so far (to my knowledge) that hasn't been seen. Honestly, my first concern would be a larger throttle body but I think ours is a pretty good size and not really needed to upgrade if I'm not mistaken.

UMP thread..... http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f24/ump-intake-systm-25506/

Hhhhhhhhh now just made my head hurt more. Choices on top of choices.

Kinda narrowed it down, no particular order:

1. Volant with powercore bagged for offroad
2. UMP (not much knowledge with this one but if RPG says its good how can you go wrong)
3. AFE stage 2 w/pro guard 7 filter bagged for offroad

Have you looked at the Corsa intake? It looks almost identical to the Volant (rebranded?) but perhaps without the fitment issues?

I have been contemplating getting a CAI as well. One problem I have come across is none I have found are legal in California (stupid air regulations). Have you guys found any that are?

I would not worry about getting pulled over and ticketed. The time to worry would be smog inspection right. since rgp is in california would think UMP would be OK
