Congrats dtt255 on your new Raptor.

Although this is a great deal at $50 over invoice, I need to throw out a word of caution. Louisberg, KS has a combined tax rate of 9.25%. That is very HIGH and can add $600 to $1000 over more reasonable tax rates of other cities. Those of you using the excel Raptor price calculator, just change the tax rate in it to compare.
+ delivery fees.

To give you an example, one dealer I'm working with is at 7.4% the other is at 6.7%.
When I compared this KS deal to my dealers with better tax rates I would be paying about $700 more in tax plus delivery fees. Even though I'm negotiating $650 to $1000 over invoice.
Food for thought.

For those of you in CA where the dealers are wanting to gouge everyone over MSRP this would still be a great deal though.

Thanks for the info.

Already talked to try dealer about it. They are going to charge me the taxes and register it for my state and area. Then shipped to ca dealer for the emissions before I take it.

My taxes here in ca, are more than the 9% anyway :)

WOW... yeah CA is high on taxes for everything :flipthebird:

That is really interesting, they will end up charging you the tax rate of the dealership where you pick it up? Did I understand that correctly?

How much is the delivery fee they are charging you?

Ca will charge you tax based on your residence (assuming you you use that address for your registration) so you can't go to spot with lower taxes and save some $$.

For state tax that would be correct, but when purchasing a car there is county and city tax. That is based on what city you purchase the car.
The dealers here in AZ with low city taxes boast that on their web sites to show you the savings.
If a dealer is arranging to have it registered and delivered for your location then yes I can imagine taxes would be by your residence address

You pay taxes when you register the vehicle. If you're buying the vehicle out of state, then you aren't paying taxes at the time of purchase. City/state doesn't matter for the dealer your buying from when out of state.

Exactly this. If I lived in say New York and then travel to Colorado to buy a vehicle I do not pay CO sales tax at the time of sale, Ill pay New York sales tax when I go in to get registration.

I've bought many vehicles out of state and from my experience its as simple as this:

Buy a vehicle out of state and pay local tax. They will want a local address though if you put local plates on it (from my experience). If you keep those plates then great but be careful some states are not happy with this especially if you buy in a state that has no sales tax! If you pay taxes in another state but register it in your local state you'll have to pay the difference in taxes and/or pay a "use tax" if you register it within a certain time frame after initially buying it (usually within 6 months or more depending on the state).

OR: Many times the dealer can just register it in your local state but they have to have a specific titling company that can do it for them and theres usually an additional cost. If you go this route taxes will be taken into account for you based on your local state. The issue here is many dealers don't have access to every state, that varies from dealer to dealer.

OR: last option, the dealer charges you NO TAX and you pay local tax when you register it in your local state. Just be prepared to write a large check when you go to register your new truck!
