They also sell way more volume which should make up for the high cost of living.

Then flyover country, yes, but there are plenty of volume dealers outside of the coasts. In Houston anyway, a few dealers that located themselves just outside of high population areas where the land and taxes are cheaper, then advertise to pull people in (or out in this case). Ron Carter and Tomball come to mine. I do think they have sort of switched gears though and are not that much of a bargin, particularly on the vehicles in short supply, then they used to be...but still thrive on the reputation.

More in Cali, yes, but more per dealer? And there are both fixed costs and per vehicle costs to account for. Only the fixed costs get amortized.
Not sure of the question, I was saying cali dealers sell higher volumes and that greatly covers their increased costs. You have dealer that had 20 allocations where my local got one.
I agree with shopping local, but there’s a limit. 30-40% mark up (ADM) is to steep

Careful, you may be labeled a whiny peasant who can’t afford to live it California :)

I mean seriously, do any of you California residents really want some sales manager in Ohio using profit from your purchase to go to Hawaii, or would you rather your local sales manager get the around the world cruise on your dime?

My ’17 sales lady was kind of boring, she took 2 months of commissions and put a downpayment on a house.

In your hypothetical scenario, none of the money stays local.

This sounds like the best solution to keep money local, unless the builder and bank aren't local. Where were the 2x4s brought in from?

I buy much less from Amazon, but still cave every now and then. In many cases, price difference from their and elsewhere that I am torn between 'cheap chinese' and feeling like I'm being taken advantage of.
If I'm buying cheap Chinese crap, Amazon is often the best price. Where Amazon fails is everywhere else. Too much of the name-brand stuff on Amazon is counterfeit and Amazon doesn't seem motivated to weed it out. The reviews are polluted with paid reviewers. So I save 10-20% on "name brand" stuff only to end up with cheap Chinese crap and the local guys get fùcked over? I'll pay the extra to keep the money onshore. Sometimes I'll pay a lot extra. I bought a pellet smoker early this year. It cost four times what the Chînk-a-delic Traeger or Green Mountain does, but it was make in Kansas and it's bombproof. Talk about quality. I'm over the price. It's like the Raptor, I smile every time I look at it.

Speaking of grills, I'm looking to add to my arsenal. Currently using a Kamado Joe Big Joe, but would like to add a Traeger style, but refuse to buy chinese junk. Would you mind linking the grill you bought?

Agreed on that. Amazon usually can't beat price on name brand stuff anyway due to manufacturer rules. My recent purchase was a set of 4 caster wheels for $20. It's about $8 per caster for slight lower load capacity at Home Depot...that they may or may not have in stock.

I would do it separate if you can. I found my truck in KC, I live in SoCal. near MSRP, and 1500 for shipping. Then found a local dealer where I traded in my Gen1 who gave me a good cash deal on the old rig. In the end I likely ended up net 15-20k positive if I were to do it all local.
what local dealer in SoCal? I'm looking to unload my Gen1. How much did you get for it? miles/condition?
