Wow what a nightmare!!

I got gorilla lug nuts now but after seeing that I’ll remove them ASAP

Any recommendations? I want to stay away from chrome. When I was attending raptor assault class I saw their raptors with long black lug nuts. Any idea what brand is that?

I pretty sure they are the Gorilla. That's what we all bought 5 to 6 years ago.
Not the locks or spline, real lug nuts.

Time for an update to my broken lug nut story:

The lug nuts are indeed Gorilla brand. I did engage them and they quickly sent me a free replacement set of 7/8" hex lug nuts (the ones i requested). They also expressed a suspicion that the lug nuts must have been over torqued. I agreed on the point, as evidenced by the difficulty removing, the pipe I needed on the breaker bar, the broken socket, etc. I also sent them some of the parts that remained from my drilling operation (broken nuts, drilled studs, nuts the did not break, etc.) so they can do metallurgical exam of the failures to see what can be learned. My position has been that even if the nuts were over torqued they should not shear into two pieces. I am generally satisfied with their response to date and curious to hear what their analysis reveals.

I gave the tire store a claim of $248 for the cost of drill bits, replacement lug bolts, loctite for the caliber bolts, etc. I also supplied a spreadsheet of the charges, receipts, and pictures. They have agreed to cover the claim, so I will continue to do business with them, but keep a close eye on their work.

I hope that by sharing my story some of you are able to avoid the aggravation I experienced. Thanks for all the supportive comments. I STILL LOVE THIS TRUCK!

You forgot the $1600 in your labor! I feel for you man, nice work getting it fixed. I’d have considered setting the truck on fire after realizing 9 of them were busted!

I agree on the labor charge! The OP is a saint for doing all that work and not charging them for his time.

glad you got past this. Respect for driving through this challenge. I had nothing near that bad, but had one out of 5 x threaded or overtorqued - or both, to the tune that my impact wrench wouldn’t budge the thing. I was able to remove the nut, but could not reinstall. Shop that did the work agreed after some ... discussion and replaced the stud and lug nut. I actually had the opposite happen as well; shop didn’t torque the wheel after doing a rotor replacement. They covered the rotor and I think it was 4 out of 5 studs.

I don’t like being “that guy”, but when I’m at a shop I am not familiar with, I’m a bit particular because of things like this.

Some carnage.

I’m glad you kept your cool with both Gorilla and the Tire shop, I’m sure that helped you get replacements/reimbursement. I would’ve wanted to shout in someone’s face. It’s a shame about the effort it took that you didn’t get compensated for.

I tip my hat to you sir. I wouldn't have had the patience to see this one through. It would have been back to a shop for repairs if it was me. Nicely done.
