After much deliberation, reading posts and doing my own homework I elected to go with the PowerCore set up. I found some pretty great information regarding the filtration technologies of Donaldson regarding Military and Defense and I just can't imagine guys who depend on Donaldson Filtration technology for their lives could be that wrong.

By the way the Donaldson website it chock full of crazy information about all the testing and applications they do regarding filtration. Pretty impressive.

Intake

The question to ask yourselves is why you would consider adding an aftermarket intake. I have my own reasons but your criteria and order of importance will likely vary. What are they?

Power gains? Certainly not with the PC/covered air box designs. Pressure drop will be nearly identical to what you have now. A bit more noise? Possibly. An increase in engine protection? Unlikely using the current group of products. PC filters have decent efficiency but the restriction rise, even during moderate loading, is very high. This requires cleaning or replacement even when the filter may appear okay.

Another thing..............how can these aftermarket manufacturers produce these systems and dramatically affect the expansion tank size and performance? How can anyone consider buying these systems when this could have a detrimental impact on cooling this engine, especially in demanding conditions. The expansion tank is designed with this capacity for a reason. It is not to be disregarded.

I'll look at oil analysis from several engines that recently competed in the desert. This will identify the best performing filters quickly.

We perform oil analysis on our HD engines routinely. It does not lie. If the analysis is suspect, the engines will show abnormal wear upon disassembly.

Don't buy important products like filters based on the approbation of people on this forum or anywhere else for that matter. Understand what is at stake and draw your own conclusions and don't just "join the group" " I got the same one as you" so you're decision doesn't face undue scrutiny, even though it may be the correct one.

?Do you have any Data vs a Control Group to back up your 2nd & 3rd paragraph??

Just installed the Volant intake with Donaldson Power Core and Vortice TB spacer... Very disappointed in the fit and finish of the kit I received for the price of this kit. Was told that it was because they are going through growing pains with Corsa. Never heard of any quality issues with Corsa... The lid didn't fit and the screws were forced through it, also had to do some trimming on the bracket for it to line up, the stock box held the expansion tank hose which was flapping around until I secured it with a hose clamp via fender bolt, and the stock expansion tank cap didn't fit and had to wrap it with electrical tape as a quick fix. Still waiting on a replacement lid.

However, I have seen a easy 2-3 MPG jump in fuel economy and a mean growl w/o the lid that I love. If you don't want an increase in engine "noise" then stick with stock. I would say with the TB spacer and intake I have noticed or there is a perceived increase in throttle responsiveness.

Edit... After a month driving have logged 1.2-1.7 mpg better before the intake without changing any driving habits. This is off two tanks of gas.

Donaldson makes adequate filters for many applications, including for the Defense Department. They don't rely on Power Core filters. The filter you have is nothing at all special. It's better than standard cellulose but its restriction is high. Coupled with the closed airbox it is installed in, it is not a good choice for high demand applications.

We have many Donaldson filters here. They are not bad filters on their face. There are better choices for the Raptor engine/application.

You didn't make a bad choice simply based on the brand of filter. The problem is how this decent filter is being utilized. This intake approaches 12" W.G. in it current configuration.

Maybe it's better if I unsubscribe from mailings in this thread and move on so we don't belabor this point.

Thanks

I find some of your comments most interesting. Looking at the situation scientifically is the best way to do it; however so far you have only made anecdotal comments no data has been produced. Your comments are most appreciated by myself but showing data would be most helpful. Perhaps a little background as well....like who are you and where do you work? Why have you only posted in this one particular thread and no others? What is the name of your company that does these interesting studies. What equipment are you using to make these filtration measurements? Facts my friend.facts!

You're right probably just the TB spacer

Sorry thats not gonna do that either... you really think ford left 30% increase in mpg on the table by not using similar products. TB spacers do squat !
