More power with as little noise as possible. That was the idea. But really, noise is not that big of a deal. Seeing someone complaining about the noise with Volant on another thread got me curious.

Is the stock intake very restrictive?

The 18hp gain claimed by AFE. That is with or without tune? Is that real at all? If true without a tune that could mean a restrictive intake.

I think the concesus on aftermaket intakes is very little to nothing at all in the way of power gains without an associated tune. Usually a noticable increase in engine sounds upon pressure to the "go" pedel. Looks cool in the engine bay.

Yep. Lol. Thanks. So possibly, tuning with stock intake will give us the 18hp :D

Have not found this info by search. Will it be worthwhile to test the hypothesis or has this been tried? Maybe I need to search better focused with that particular situation in mind.

With a good tune you should get more than 18 hp. I think many folks have commented and show proof on dyno that just a CAI will not get you much in the way of power. If your looking expressly for power consider a tune. A little more power a tune with CAI. Just a CAI a little more noise and neat look under the hood.

I have a Volant CAI with ram air intake and Donaldson power Core that I ran on my 2013 for about 5k miles if anyone wants to buy a barely used set-up. I was not yet willing to run a tune and was not happy with the way the engine ran with just the CAI. Shoot me a message if you are interested.

so to my understanding of reading through the posts... intakes are a decent mod but not the best bang for your buck, and is reccommended to be utilized in conjunction with a tune of some sort?

Almost seems you do anything OR nothing plus a tune and you get 30hp :signs8:

Heheh j/k, modding will be part of the fun regardless, cool thread
