On my brain
Only CAI ever worth MORE than the cost was a Beehive for a C6Z I had. All motor best pull from 430 to 480whp and this car weighed half the Raptor.

They quote 22hp for an AFE. Even if true that is almost negligible. Pee on the beach and if it gets saltier lol. I want them horses though :D

I will tune this truck. Oh yes I will. I would not be myself if I did not. Will try the included files and will do custom dyno/street tune.

Heck. Supercharged a Sequoia back in 2002. Dealer installed TRD unit with warranty. TRD intake was mandatory of course.

Just seeking the quietest les intrusive upgrades I can do. Liking the AFE with cover.

See. I'm on probation by the wife.

Just get some Toyo MT's, you'll never hear the CAI again :perkinswhatever:

Thanks for all the responses fellas. I called over to Volant the other day and was told they have no intention on getting rid of the Donaldson air filter. I definitely love the idea of 99.97% filtration. I used to deal with filter media a bit and that's HEPA level Hospital grade filtration. That can't be bad for the engine.

As for the Horsepower numbers, they mentioned they are incredibly variable and depends on a number of factors including the Dyno you test on, the humidity in the air, etc. etc. That told me most of their kits will deliver in the range of 12-18 HP as an average.

They also directed me to some videos online that showed even more impressive performance especially this one from a Chevy 6.0L. that generated 23 HP. Volant Cool Air Intakes

Hennessey Intake kit?

It will keep the large particles out of your engine.

If you want to keep the dust out of your engine, a different intake option such as the Volant PowerCore filter/intake might be better.:emotions33:

Installed Volant Cold Air Intake System with Powercore Dry Filter and added Volant Pre-Filter for the Powercore Dry Filter and the Volant Ram Air Scoop. Got a good package price from MarylandSpeed.com.

Bit of pain to install as noted in other threads, just look at pictures of already installed systems to see how things should look, especially the hood sensor. If you go for the air scoop, install that first with the box before installing the coolant reservoir bracket and new reservoir. The larger air box is the reason for new reservoir and bracket. Added the pre-filter to keep water off the filter; based on the muddy water stains all over the inside the stock air filter box; and to keep any moisture or other debris off the filter that comes in through the air scoop.

Agree with other comments about Volant, tighten up the clamps after driving, make sure no parts are rubbing to reduce vibration. Noise is fine to me cruising around, only really noticeable increase in noise and some buzz comes with rapid acceleration to generate a few smiles. The only thing I don't like is the too thin "gasket" that is supposed to help seal the lid, it doesn't make an air tight seal so to speak, I will probably add additional gasket material to improve the seal.

Also added the Heatshield Products Cold Air Intake System Heat Shield to go all in, figured if colder air is key to helping improve performance with CAI, why not! Seems to work, the CAI tube was very hot to touch before heat shield, but now just warm to the touch.

Running Mike's 5 STAR 93 performance tune too, you will definitely notice the difference!

The air intake tube heat shield is really a joke in that the air being pulled into the engine is moving thru that tube so quickly it really will have no impact on IAT.

I thought the 6.2 engine in the Raptor came with a CAI???

Yukon Joe
GREAT LAKES RAPTOR EXCURSIONS

You are right, the intake from the factory is a CAI, the aftermarket ones basically remove a few of the restrictions in the stock one that were put inplace for lowering intake noise and for reliability (The rubber tube is designed to be flexible and take a beating without detaching).

Aftermarket units while they flow a little better they also have a greater chance of becoming detached as they are solid tubes so they do not absorb the vibrations and impacts as much and instead it transfers to the connection points. Which is why everyone should check them before the go offroad and when doing oil changes. I always keep the correct size tool in my vehicle to be able to tighten it should it come loose.
