So basically went to unlock my truck this morning with the remote. Nothing! Thought maybe the battery died in the remote and tried the spare nothing. Had to use the key to enter the truck and it was completely dead.

Popped the hood and checked the battery. 4.5v ugh. Parked the truck Friday eve and then cleaned it up some Saturday morning and still had power. So maybe the battery was being drained. Or did it just die hard and fast. Truck is a ‘19 with the original battery.

I have it on the charger currently as I rather not attempt to jump box it and put all that strain on the alternator to charge.

But being at 4.5v and going dead in such a short period, does it sound like something is drawing power or do these AGM batteries die hard and fast on occasion? I can see nothing that was left on or the truck would leave powered up after key off at that.

here, on frf
you are fine with jumping it. the alternator and voltage regulator will charge the vehicle properly. as far as the battery, it seems a little early for it to die, but you never know. maybe a load test will give you an answer. also probably recommend a bms reset

Yeah does seem early for it go dead this fast. I can jump box it too and let it charge I gather. Let me ask you. The only equip on the truck that I could question now and has been installed for a year is the sub amp and audio control LC1. Not that it’s ever happens before to me. Any chance the amp would have got stuck powered up? Just trying to see if a fault somewhere.

Oh btw I forgot to add the alarm went off yesterday late afternoon when wasn’t at home. Probably next door Neibhor’s Harley and then half hour later the hibernation msg was delivered to FordPass. Didn’t think anything of it however.

BMS reset I imagine can be done with Forscan?

The battery voltage of 4.5 is well below the point that the battery has been damaged. I think 11.6 is the cutoff point and I would not recommend getting down to 11.6 volts - but obviously there has to be a number to have meaning.

if I was you I would assume the battery is damaged and go get a new one.

by the way - same exact thing happened to my 2019 last February. The truck sat in the garage for 2 months, when I got home the battery was 4.5 volts and my battery tender was not able to change that. I bought a new battery from the Ford dealer - they had it charged and I gave them the old one for the swap. I simply put in the new battery and the dealer said not to worry about the BMS. They were right as the new battery has worked flawlessly. Hence, based on what happened to me I would buy a replacement battery - pop it in a go…

I bet the battery has been slowly dying and you only noticed after your alarm pissed off the neighbors and somebody put a bullet in your battery, lol. Seriously, probably time for a new battery, it won't be the same now being drained that far with that age. You might be able to charge it up and use it, but it won't be reliable.
On a side note, both the batteries for my travel trailer went dead even though the inverter kept a charge on them for the last 7 years, they are maintenance free agm's but I pulled the tops off anyway and both were 50 -60% dry in various cells, I filled them up with distilled water and they took a charge, they don't work like new but they will operate all the stuff in the trailer. You could pop the tops off just to see if they are dry.

That’s all pretty interesting. Sounds like these AGM’s may prematurely dry up and go bad. I have left it charging and it approaching 12v. Obviously this battery is now unreliable and hitting 4.5v probably confirms that.

I know batteries are wearables and such, but does Ford cover batteries under the new 3/36 as it reads? Or pro rate them. Otherwise based on how long this one lasted I would go another route if not.

I went through an issue with my newly purchased '18 going through batteries. Even severals weeks after getting a brand new Odyssey. Finally discovered, that the siding tray door in the center console (in front of the gear shifter) has a lamp that turns on when the sliding tray is open. And also discovered that such lamp does NOT turn off when you ignition off, lock truck and set alarm. Have to keep the compartment closed.

Been leaving it closed and haven't had battery problems since, so I believe this to be the culprit of my slow drain.

Good to know. I've left it open before a few times but didn't know that. I usually close it because I prefer seeing my carbon fiber instead of the Tic Tac, Altoid, and Blistex I keep in there.......

I would believe so as well, but I have come across info listing 3/36 completely covered. But I no knows until I speak to someone at the dealer tomorrow. PIA to have to bring the truck in and leave it vs just buying the battery and throwing it in and if that’s all it is.

Ugh truck just messaged me about going into deep hibernation mode. Obviously voltage has dropped off since it was charged up earlier today.
