So, now the question remains; What color would the "Fire Red" turn once I place it over the current RED EL Strip with the RED Brakelight tape over the top?

I think this just might work!!!

I went to Staples and got a Red plastic "Pencil Box" with the white plastic slide out drawer for $.99.

That has darkened the color for me to appear as the Orange that is on the truck.

It looks very good!!! IMHO...

I am sure these gels can be sourced locally at good camera stores (Wolf Camera and Walmart don't count) they have Lee filters. You might have to special order Lee 106 (closest to Primary Red). I doubt it, though; 106 is very popular.

Has anybody figured out a way to make these lighted in a legal amber color? I like this mod but I am not a big fan of trying the illegal. If you do them in amber there should be no problem right? Just like running lights on the side of my trailer.

Interesting story! I dropped off my kids last night and pulled into a parking lot to grab a few things I needed from the store. There were two policemen in separate cruisers parked in the lot. I parked right next to them (well a spot or two down, but there were no cars between us).

As I was walking past their cars they asked me about the SVT backlit logo. SHIT. I forgot I had them on.

I told them what it was and how I did it and they complimented me on the looks. Once I felt that they weren't going to ticket me, etc I asked about the legalness of the lights.

neither one of them knew off of the top of their heads if they were legal. But, they did say that I would not get pulled over just for those lights (by their department). They said they thought they looked cool.

Two cool dudes complimenting me on my truck. By the end of the conversation I had forgotten that they were policemen and we had a great conversation.

Hopefully LE in your area is as forgiving (or likes your truck enough to overlook any problems?).

That is interesting and are yours red? The only reason I thought this might be a problem is that red is designated for the rear and having it on the side towards the front of a vehicle I believe is illegal in Illinois. Defrauding the public isn't but this is, go figure.

Yeah, the red lights with brake light tape over them.

I'm pretty sure it has to be illegal for the reason you (and others) have stated.

It is, thats why you hook up to Aux4, on and off with the flick of a switch. Like it was said, they would have to be some serious ***** to ticket you for that.

Amber shouldn't be too hard you just would need to find a transparent amber plastic and use the white el tape.
