Back Window Replacement

Do you really think that no other maker is willing to give it a try with a roll down back window? All the Tundra guys seem to love it, that’s normally a hint for competition to take notice at least.

I personally wouldn’t use it, I never roll any of my windows down anytime of year. But it does puzzle me a bit.

I don’t think, I know, cuz they keep refusing to adopt it lol!

Yeah, the Bronco had it. As did/does the 4Runner.

GM copied Ford on the tailgate step (adding cost/weight), makes no sense to me that Ford/GM/RAM, or even Nissan wouldn’t try a roll down back window.

I do not understand this feature. As a matter of fact it is one of the tings that turned my off the Tundra TRD. That and the fact that full size Japan trucks don't feel very full size at all.

I know some Tundra guys and I never heard of this feature. What's this fascination with moonroofs and sliding rear windows on pickup trucks? I don't get it. It's like teats on a boar. Why not just make it a convertible? Then you could let the ****** weather, the bugs, the dust, the gravel, the fumes, the noise, all of it, right into your lap. It would be a lot cheaper, lighter, and more reliable, too. Win/win. And you can do it at home with a Sawzall. Slam dunk.

I don't think Ford is concerned with losing sales to Tundra because of a back window that rolls down. Maybe Toyota will update their interior in the next century, to catch up with their wonderful window. I could care less about something as semantic as a sun roof or a rear window that rolls down. Wish my 802A didn't have the damn sun roof to begin with

The issue is quality control and costs.

When Toyota makes rear window to go down, it works.

When Ford makes rear window to go down, there will be a line at the dealer for warranty issues.

On top of it, Ford is about cutting costs as much as they can (example rear windows are not automatic, missing lights for PRND shifter, fewer LEDs on side mirrors on later models, plastic oil pans on earlier F150s, etc, etc, etc..). No way they'll add an expensive feature, knowing their trucks sell as is without it.

Ford can't get their sunroofs working right, not sure they have enough what it takes to tackle the rear window.

I’d love to know where you get your “information”, because it’s all ********. Do you have access to Ford and Toyota’s warranty costs? Of course you don’t, you’re just spouting nonsense with zero data to back it up

Every manufacturer factors in cost reduction. The items you mention are ridiculous; Ford never had automatic rear windows, the 2-piece composite oil pans were implemented for NVH, not cost, and the PRNDM illumination was redundant.

Meanwhile, cost control at Toyota is much more obvious; Tundra’s playskool grade interior that is a decade in a half old, using RTV to seal the cam towers instead of a gasket, resulting in repeat leaks that have been occurring for the last 2 decades, using low grade steel for their frames and not properly treating the metal resulting in low rigidity and frames rotting in half, paint flaking off the door frames, moving Tacoma production to Mexico, and of course using a Sienna minivan engine in the Taco, which still has drum brakes. They’re too cheap to even have a height adjustable seat, and they still have blanked off switch molds on the dash with dot matrix digital clocks from the 80’s.

If you want to be a Toyota cheerleader, why don’t you go over to the Toy forums and tell them how great the rear window is and how it never breaks or leaks:

“Took it to the dealership to at least get it documented. The lead tech said he's seen this before. Had 3 tacomas come in prior to mine with a leaking rear window seal. Window's ordered. Now to wait for it to come in and get that scheduled. Wasn't expecting a one year old truck to leak like this, but at least it's within the initial two year warranty period...”

First off, I’m not a Ford employee. Second off, you are the one who brought up Toyota and made baseless, ignorant claims. Toyota does not make “more reliable” vehicles than Ford, period. You’re clearly a Toyota fanboy, maybe that Fukushima radiation has blown across the pacific and contaminated your mind down there in SoCal? I‘ve serviced all makes and all models, from Porsche to KIA, for over a decade. The Toyota “reliability” superiority claims are a farce and a joke. They all break, Toys are just one of the more expensive to repair. Toyota hasn’t had above average quality since the 90’s, yet people like yourself continue to promulgate a reputation that hasn’t been true for 2 decades. You have zero data, zero credentials, and you don’t work in the auto industry. Funny how the people who know the least seem to speak the most.

BTW, I have 14k in my ‘19 with zero trips to the dealer.

don’t you work at a dealership meaning the truck goes to the dealership all the time lol. I do like the roll down rear window, loved it on 4runner. I don’t love how Toyota has no innovation, same truck for almost two decades.

I personally never open any of my windows, or sunroof. But finding an otherwise loaded Raptor without a sunroof is nearly impossible.
