Question??????

Is there a way to get red back lit SVT or does that tape only come in white? Or is there any way to make it not white?

Check out THIS website and THIS one for color information. I don't know if the colors and brand are the same for every vendor though.

Well it shows for indoor use but another website lists it for both indoor and outdoor.

I did this mod too. Here is some info about what I used.

Light Panel : http://www.glowhut.com/12-x-125-inch-el-paneltapebacklight-with-lead-wire-and-conn12125.html

inverter : http://www.glowhut.com/12-volt-dc-inverter-for-el-wire--el-strip--el-tape--el-pan.html

3 way splitter : http://www.glowhut.com/splitter-for-el-wire--strip--panel--sheet--backlight.html

extra connectors: http://www.glowhut.com/accessories-for-el-wireel-stripel-tapeel-panel.html

I may be able to post some pics and a quick writeup around thursday or so.

But I bought 2 red light panels, 1 inverter, 1 three way splitter, and 1 extra connector kit. It was a very easy mod. Hopefully I can get somthing posted soon.

The RED light panels looked orange when they arrived. I ended up having to buy some red taillight repair tape and just covered the light panels with it to make them look more red. The project turned out perfect. I now have red svt letters on my black truck. At night they have a light red glow and look great!!!!

Good to know for me that the EL tape looked orange, that's exactly what I would be looking for. Why didn't you buy the 12V kit instead of individual parts? Just curious.

The company claims that they don't make orange but it looked orange to me. I was able to fix it though to make it work for what I was wanting.
I bought the inverter seperate because it saved me a dollar. 1 light panel is 15.00 and the inverter is 8.00. But the 12v kit that i saw had 1 light panel and 1 inverter for 24.00.

It you want to color match, its not imposible. When i got ready to order my tape I wanted white. When it came in the mail - The first time - it was PINK! So now there's a problem! What I did was take some 600 wet sand paper put the tape in the sink and sanded it, dried it and spray painted it with just enough to cover it with oxford white. When i placed it and replaced the vent then it was invisible till dark, then when it lit up it was about the color of the dash lights. It was cool

You can experiment with it the tape is pretty inexpensive.

When the replacement comes in I'll post step by step unless some one beats me to it.

Here is somewhat a quick write-up. It's not really a step by step but it may help a little.

Here is the red light panel uninstalled:

I used black tape to blacken out the remaining panel. As you can see I will also use some red repair light tape to turn the panel a more red color. (The panel is too close to orange for my liking):

l_316142783b7e42759520eef0c4597079.png

I put some tape against the edge of the vent cover to help protect the paint. I used a putty knife covered in tape and place it behind the flat area around the front of the "s". The vent covers pop out with just a little bit of force. There are 2 clips. One above the "s" and one below the "s":

the vent cover off with double sided tape added for the light panel to stay in place:

the light panel in place:

I then put the red tailight repair tape over the light panel that will be showing through the vent cover:

After the vent cover is put back on this is what it looks like:

The inverter is placed (with heavy duty double sided tape) on the battery housing:

Since the drivers side light panel wouldn't reach the inverter, I had to add wire the light panel. this just shows where I have the drivers side wire coming out of the vent at :

Shown is the plastic piece between the windshield and the hood. I used that little channel to run the wire from the drivers side light panel over to the passenger side.:

This just shows the 3 way connecter. Driver and passenger side light panel plugged into 3 way connecter. The 3 way connecter is then plugged into invereter:

These are the set of run thru wires that Ford put thru the fire wall for ya. I used the red wire for the light panel mod.:

l_45c53acb59f5473f9d5e6c9d13ea0c65.png

I used the red wire and connected it to the hot wire of the inverter:

I grounded the inverter to the side of the engine compartment.

Ok. I don't have any pics but under your kick panel, under your glove department are the wires i took a picture of. They are blunt end wires that were just simply put through the fire wall from the engine compartment to beside/ under the glove box. Also around the same area of these wires are 4 other wires with blunt ends. These other wires are connected to your auxiliary switches.
They consist of the following colors:

Yellow wire: switch 1
Green w brown stripe wire: switch 2
Violet w green stripe wire: switch 3
Brown wire: switch 4

I used switch 4. So I connected the brown wire to the red wire(red wire that is in the area under glove box). Aux switch 4 now controls whatever i have hooked to the red wire inside the engine compartment which is currently the light panels. =)

Hoped this helped somewhat.
