That's kind of what I figured. My wife's toyota won't LET you lock the key in the car. Not sure how it knows, signal strength maybe.

Call me lazy or foolish but I like the ability to lock my keys in the car. Of course I don't do that if I'm in a sketchy part of town. Usually only in places where the truck is in view anyway.

I do too, especially when I deer hunt. I always hide my keys in my truck.

With the push button start, you have to have the key fob in so many feet (in your pocket, etc...) of the vehicle for it to unlock the door &/or start the engine. If you leave the key fob in the car, it usually will not let you lock the door upon exit, but you can lock it with the keyless comb pad, but since the FOB was left in the vehicle, you can grab door handle it will unlock immediately. So you don't ever want to leave the FOB in the vehicle unless you want your car stolen.

Not true. At least not for the Lincoln MKX I was in recently. I had placed the fob in the cupholder and locked the car when I went into the gas station to take a **** and when I came back out and grabbed the handle...nothing. Had to call a locksmith to come out and break into my rental car. Won't make that mistake again.
