I’ve been looking at the ORA550 tune. You recommend the stock location as opposed to front mount?
I also have Ford ESP for 6 more years or so. :-/

The front mount intercooler has been a common denominator in many a Jen Too ‘overheating’ discussion. In one instance it was a guy towing and had grille mounted lights along with the FMIC. Another middle eastern user was running the sand dunes, admittedly very hard use. I remember a more recent towing user. My thoughts are that there’s enough cooling capacity in stock form. Deviate too much from stock and you’ll overheat and the FMIC PLUS one other deviation is seemingly enough.

Stock location CAC models don’t obstruct radiator air flow at all.

Now, queue all the triggered FRF users with FMIC’s to explain away the users who have overheated while rocking the FMIC.

YMMV and all that.

The answer to your question depends on which engine you are discussing. The 6.2L in the Gen1 can safely increase HP by 50% or more, it is a strong engine. I have a Gen1 boosted 11-12 PSI rated at 700 HP (700/411= 70% increase in HP). I tow an 8000 lb trailer up 10 mile long 6% grades with no problem. Ford has already boosted the V6, I don't know how much more it can safely be boosted and still be reliable pulling heavy loads on long grades. i would not do it. Boosting a strong non-boosted motor good, boosting an already high boosted motor not good (for towing). Other than boosting, most simple bolt on HP and tunes truely offer no gain or minimal gain that is not noticeable.
You actually have it backward. The 6.2 is only strong in its factory naturally aspirated form. Adding forced induction to an engine designed to be naturally aspired is a bad idea, because it was never engineered or tested to handle boost. That means compression ratio, piston/rings/ringland design, connecting rods, crankshaft, cooling system, PCV system, valve springs, etc. It’s only a matter of time before you discover the weakest link; one of the most common and documented is oil pump failure caused by the additional loading on the crank.

The 3.5 was engineered for forced induction from the factory, which means all the systems mentioned above are were torture tested under extreme conditions in maximum boost, including extended towing at max GVWR. As far as tuning, most tuners can provide a selection of profiles, such as a towing tune, that can be selected depending on use. Regardless of engine it is never recommended to tow with a performance tune installed, you’re just asking for failure.

The normal bolt ons (intake, intercooler) should not due any harm themselves if good quality brands/install methods are used. They may actually help the truck run cooler. Albeit I would change the filter more often with an aftermarket intake. The problems seem to be from neglecting maintenance, bad tunes, bad gas/tunes. A stage 2 tune tweaked to the max on bad gas, hard load etc may end up poorly but you should be good to go with minor stuff.

Is it from the FMIC or the LP9s in front of the grill? I thought it was more from the lights. Either behind or in front of the grill. Haven't heard of people overheating with a FMIC and no lights.

Yeah we had a couple users report it, the one I remember had no big @ss lights.

yeah... I don’t think FMIC --by itself-- is the issue, I think it’s the combination of things.

hey - I’m rocking an S8 bar in the grille so no FMIC for me. Towing? I’d be keeping a close eye on temps for sure because I’ve at least something that doesn’t help the cooling.

These trucks only have front mount intercoolers, some are just bigger than others. But contact Goosetuned, tell him what you want and he'll tell you what you need. I now have my Raptor and Subaru STi tuned by him.

Yep learned that lesson with bigger heatexchanger on gen 1 whipple. I think a good part of the country can get away with fmic because of avg airtemps. Arizona ,No way you will have issues stock set up is barely adequate with a stock tune in summer. Add more boost . Sustained boost you will set a p2602 coolant pump circuit if it sees 230 deg more than 5 seconds it will store a code .After 30 it will set CEL . I think . I just ran into this stored code yesterday. 115 deg ambient and was racing a co worker 04 lightning swapped f150. I barely got him ,it was pretty close . My truck was pulling a lot of timing . 4000 DA. When I got home that code was stored . Stock location CAC has its own air path just like a Gen 2 lightning.

I have a DTE Powercontrol module I'm selling if you're interested. It's received high marks from other users, is customizable for power levels, and is the solution least detectable by a dealer because you can simply remove it for dealer visits. I'm only getting rid of it because I'm finally out of Ford factory warranty and will be going with a full Goosetune.

Great you bring this up. I bought my 2019 with one installed; dealership must have ‘missed it’ during inspection.

I reached out to them in Germany and they were pretty squared away with their customer service.

Any chance you have actual numbers on HP/TQ gains from your experience?
