Ok, so I stopped by the local dealer and showed the tech jamannr's pic and part number and explained the problem. He went into the parts room and came out with the seal and the Teflon grease that Ford calls for. He said he could look at it right away if I had the time, so I said ...Absolutely, let's do this! 45 min later it was done. I have only driven a couple hundred km since, but there is no clunk whatsoever. I am back at work with the truck this week, so I will post an update after about 1400 km highway and maybe 1000 km off road. Cheers!

are you in another country? I would like to think most Ford dealers in the USA would know about this, but do not know. Glad it worked out, I figured a lot of those wear out especially up in the North/ Northeast were cold weather creates havoc on rubber seals and parts.

I live and work in Canada. It definitely gets cold in winter where I work. It is a difficult environment for any vehicle, for sure. I am a contractor, so I own this truck myself (well, my company does) but the guys that I work with that work for the oil company I am contracted to all drive GM company trucks because they have been dealing at same dealer for 20 years, great deals, blah, blah...anyway, they basically get brand new every year. They swap them out when they have 80,000 km (50,000 miles) and they are totally bagged out, beat up junk in that time. EDIT: I will add here that I get used to my truck and sometimes wonder if it's that much different than any other truck like the GM's the guys drive or any standard pickup. That is until I go for a ride in one of the other trucks and I am like, "Holy Flip, these trucks are lame!!" They rattle and squeak and bounce you out of your seat on any rough roads. They seem so low and the ride is soooo bad! The other thing I HATE about those GM's they drive is the cylinder deactivation, they are so gutless, it is pathetic, sound like a sewing machine when they are idling ( or driving for that matter) I do love my Raptor, it is a great truck for what I do.

The tech was just smiling and nodding as I talked to him. He knew exactly what the issue was. Turns out the seal was there, just shot so it couldn't hold grease. I REALLY hope this makes the problem go away. Heck, for $20-$30 I'd do it every year...I just don't want to be doing this every 1000 km. Cheers!

glad it worked out, I could see the Northern Raptor's having to do this every other winter season especially when salt is used on roads. Glad it worked out. Good Luck...

I had my oil changed, the transmission flushed and went in with the clunking drive shaft.

the drive shaft maintenance portion was a

9L3Z4W602A part called a Kit- Drive SH repair kit for like 17.95

the maintenance was 93.95 total and my drive shaft works good as new no more clunking. Hope this info helps.

My Ford guy said that part number was for a split shaft not one piece like ours. Did he use the same kit from the split?

Yup. Two piece shaft. I'm guessing your guy was being creative and solved it by adapting the same al from a two piece. My guy is insistant it won't work because its a one piece shaft and I don't have the "boot". He then asked if you have a Raptor. Beginning to think some people live in boxes and can't think outside of them.

well it works, do not know for how long though.

Well, I went back to the dealership, he pulled up the part number, showed me the diagram and it is for a two piece drive shaft, its a boot that goes over where they couple, so they aren't boxes in for the thinking. Still working on eliminating the noise. I'm thinking they just repacked yours with grease or something?

no dude they probably used the same old repair that they used on normal F150s. That is the part number for the kit and it is permalinked posted in #679. A picture of what it looks like, the Canadian guy had it come out ok and my is working like a charm. No more clunking noise or binding down low when coming to a stop.
