Okay here it is..

New canister purge valve

Old canister purge valve.. It is located behind throttle body and held in with to 5/16 bolts. There is a wire connector and a white vacuum line clip.. You have to squeeze tabs on bottom and pull white clip up to free valve.

Old purge valve, full of carbon and crap.

New one installed in about 10 minutes.. No more weird idle or ticking (cheap relatively speaking $55 from Ford)

Test to make sure it is ticking... The easiest way is with the engine running. Put your finger on the electrical connector..You will feel it ticking, and sometimes will stop when you press on the connector.

I have been thinking about this, and why mine could have shot craps so soon. The general conscious is parts of charcoal breaking off from charcoal canister and getting into the valve assembly. Others suggested moisture and crap entering into IWE vacuum lines and contaminating valve.. And there is going number of f150 owners with aftermarket intakes where pvc and other vacuum lines are close to each other that oil is being sucked into valve.

The timing chain assembly has a hydraulic tensioner. Effectively, it's vaguely similar to a hydraulic lifter.

Sometime it takes a few seconds to 'pump up' and can cause a 'knocking' like sound.

Injector ticking is a very soft "high" clitter at a rapid pace. Not so much an actual knock.

The tensioner noise most closely resembles upper valvetrain noise or piston slap.

Old/high mileage oil, excessively heavy/thick oil, and/or an older or malfunctioning oil filter that was previously mentioned can all factor in as well.

Great post....nothing better than a "very soft high clitter"..... IJS

Engine Noise During Start

Has anyone experienced the quick sewing machine valve noise that subsides almost as quickly as it begins during start? Any ideas or input?

Mine does this and I've read that it's normal. I assume it's the oil leaking down away from the valve train when the engine is off.
