mine ticks all the time in the colder months in summer it is fine i don't hear it at all. And dealer says nothing wrong with it no codes or lights on the dash. I was like no sh*t no lights but still it shouldn't make that noise i don't think.

Whacked my valve covers with a rubber mallet and it stopped ticking...

The timing chain assembly has a hydraulic tensioner. Effectively, it's vaguely similar to a hydraulic lifter.

Sometime it takes a few seconds to 'pump up' and can cause a 'knocking' like sound.

Injector ticking is a very soft "high" clitter at a rapid pace. Not so much an actual knock.

The tensioner noise most closely resembles upper valvetrain noise or piston slap.

Old/high mileage oil, excessively heavy/thick oil, and/or an older or malfunctioning oil filter that was previously mentioned can all factor in as well.

Mine ticks when cold-stops when warmed up.

I have found that ford and chev engines (big blocks) tick a little when cold when using synthetic oil, but not with real motor oil.

I just let the oil warm, and tick stops-

I'm starting to think that this little tick noise is normal cause mine does it in the morning when it's cold outside I've ran both synthetic and regular oil I've tried a mobile one filter a royal purple filter and a motor craft filter it doesn't help the noise at all. It's not loud at all actually the only time I gear the little ticks are when the hood is up other than that the royal purple high performance full synthetic oil works amazing.
