I just attributed it to the engine needing to warm up. I'm used to driving diesels. They make all kinds of racket if you start em when its cold out.

Yeah when I had the stock cat-back on I notice alil rattle in the exhaust on initial start up. The stock cat-back was hitn the leaf spring lol. No more of that when I put the Borla on. =)

The links from BigJ that were posted above are good points. The valve train wear, while being the most "severe", is also the least common issue....I haven't seen or heard of that one happening too often. The canister purge valve tick is the most common culprit and can occur at anytime. A way to check for the canister purge valve tick is to check right behind the throttle body, there will be a connector that plugs in form the driver side, you will actually feel the ticking through that connector while it's happening.....most of the time, the ticking will stop if you just wiggle the connector a bit. I've yet to hear that tick anymore since having mine replaced. As for other ticking noises, the 6.2 has just shown to be somewhat of a loud motor especially with the injector noise. It's even more pronounced with headers.

My 2012 raptor and my grandPa s 2012 harley truck make the same noise. I thought something was wrong with then but the dealer said it was normal.

1 week old 2012 screw with ~500 miles on it and I'm wondering if this is similar to what I'm experiencing...on initial startup/drive off I hear a metallic pinging noise that sounds like it's coming from underneath the truck. This lasts maybe 30 seconds and I only hear it when on the gas. Also if I shut the front doors hard I can hear the noise very slightly or sometimes when driving over large bumps.

Is that similar to your situation?

My 2012 just started doing it. I noticed it did coincide with the temps warming up in Michigan. It does it when started first in morning, just like an old lifter clatter in a push rod V8 worn out engine. Does not sound good. I am partly wondering if it is not caused by this water thin oil being used, 5W20 and if I could go a tad thicker if it would help. Or...it could make it worse depending on what the real problem is with the design of the engine causing this.

I have a 2012 with 5,500 miles and noticed this ticking for the first time today when I used remote start. It ticked for about 2-3 seconds after cranking and then the tick went away. This was not the first start of the day, the truck had been driven on and off all day and had only been parked for 2 hours. I replaced the oil with Mobil One Synthetic at about 1,500 miles. Oh well, I guess it's normal, but it sure sounds like dog turds when it ticks.
