That is why I used the 2x2x.25 angle iron. In the situation it's good for way more stress then the stock seat belt anchors are the von misses stress was well below the allowable limits for a36 steel when I ran the FEA.

I'm also full aware this is not a full install. It's just to keep me in the seat and not have the seat belt pre-tentioner trying to strangle me.

Have you tested out your belt setup dubious?! I'm looking into a setup for myself as well. When my stock restraints lock up on me, I'm screwed. Therefor, I mainly have use of the lap belts only while offroading......Driving with my left arm only, the seat belt will lock up, and not allowing me to get full steering at the worst possible moment. Luckily, I'm used to Offroading like this or probs could have been crazy. I rather have better restraints for upcoming runs though.

We did it for my back.... (don't sit in the back seat of a screw while jumping) keeping me planted is crucial even for moderate offroading. Yukon takes it easier when I'm in the truck obviously, but I wouldn't have made it a quarter lap at TRR without the harness. It was great! Didn't budge in the seat.

Is it going to protect you in a crash?... Eh, with how Joe mounted ours using the seat belt mounts in the pillers its just about as safe as regular seat belts. But they are not used at all on road, only offroading!

But you are right that its not a license to drive like a moron, for us, its about comfort and not hitting your helmet on the roof.

Use a large binder clip to hold the belt in the position you want it, and it wont lock up on you where you don't want it to.

Backs don't break just because your belt/harness isn't tight enough. The suspension of the seat has a bunch todo with it, and Raptor seats have suspension in them. This give allows your body to compress into the seat, and then stop suddenly when you bottom out. This is how most offroad back breaks can happen. There is a big debate in offroad racing between suspension seats, and shell seats because of this. Suspension seats are more comfortable but can break your back much easier.

Also shoulder harnesses have a certain angle that they need to be mounted at to work properly. 0 - negative 20 degrees. Anything beyond that can cause back injuries.

Lastly, stock belts allow you to conform to the truck in the event of a serious rollover, where 4 pts/5pts hold you exactly where you are, I realize that these trucks seem to be able to take a roll pretty well, but in the event of a major one, you're going to get squished.

Lap belts and shoulder harnesses are great for offroading, but doing them without a cage is asking for trouble. I have some new mastercraft harnesses on order for my prerunner, when I get them, I'll do a full writeup on how harnesses should be properly installed in a truck with a cage.

I realize that everyone that's doing this mod is aware of the risks. I just wanted to give another opinion on people considering it...

Thanks for sharing Trey.

When RW hurt her back, she was in the rear seat. NOT A PLACE TO BE when off roading.

I won't jump the truck with her in it any more, but the front harness does hold her well to the seat for the rough roads / trails.

BTW, a strong binder clip is a great ideas for keeping the seat belt from locking up. I've used it before in other trucks.
