A 2018 Lariat SCREW 4x4 with the 5.0 is 47 and some change without any rebates / incentives - I bet a leftover '17 could be had for less. You can easily best a Raptor on road and in the dirt for the 20k difference if you are smart and patient.

The 'modes' are a nice to have, they certainly aren't needed.

Frame is a non issue.

So go ahead and be patient and wait... spend basically the same money for basically the same thing.... theoretically... meanwhile I'll keep enjoying my raptor with its warranty.

The question was if it could be done. The answer is yes.

I've been considering going with a standard f150 in a V8 and just throwing the wider body parts on it, grill, etc. and saving a ton of money.

Wheels and suspension would likely go aftermarket on a raptor anyways. The markup is just to ridiculous for me to absorb mentally... $70k for cheap interior, cheap sound, cheap paint finish, etc... and thats not just with this... all of the newer vehicles are just becoming ridiculous in price. I don't know how some of these families out here make it.

I think the answer is maybe. At best. But I think just time invested or labor charges would break that deal... Not to mention the warranty. Just my 2 cents.

The answer is yes. I'll concede on the warranty part, but you have to pay to play and that wasn't one of the OPs requirements.

whipple - 7,400, another 12-1500ish to install, call it 9k total.

https://whipplesuperchargers.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=220

646rwhp and 19+mpgs

https://www.f150forum.com/f123/646-rwhp-f-150-a-361594/index21/

so only a 300hp advantage...

16.5 inches of travel - 5,900

BOLT Front Suspension Kit - RPG Offroad

deavers - ~1300 or Raptor take offs for what, 2-300 bucks?

coilovers / shocks - ~4,500 if you have to buy new, cheaper if you troll the forum for sale threads...

Fox 3.0 Factory Coil-Over Int Bypass + 3.0 Reservoir Set 10-16 F-150 Raptor 4WD | eBay

so roughly 21k in parts (and labor for supercharger install) for all new. installing control arms is a couple hour job at most in the driveway for anyone that is even remotely capable. Not to mention you'll recoup some money selling all the new parts you took off. fenders are cheap, like 400 bucks, easily covered by what you recoup.

lets go with 21k all in.

you can EASILY beat that cost using Raptor take off arms, by like over 4 grand.

Now all you have to do is find a truck. TrueCar lists 42k as the average price paid (with incentives) in my area (DC) for a new 2017 screw lariat 4x4 with the 5.0

42 + 21 = 63 - but that is if you go big on the front suspension. You can use Raptor take off arms with resi / adjuster 3.0s and still outperform a stock raptor and save about 4k.

so 59k gets you a smidge better suspension and 300 more hp.

Of course if you buy a demo 17 or a low miler, you drop into the 30s.

Like I said, yes, you can build a Raptor killer cheaper than you can buy a Raptor.

You gen 2 guys act like Raptor's have't been around since 2010. This conversation has been had only about 500 times.

For reference, my scab is the black raptor Ian drove on xtreme4x4 for his half price Raptor build - back in 2011 when only 5 or 6 of these conversations had been covered.

Edit: forgot tie rods & axles but only another ~1k unless you use Raptor take offs, then at worst 500 - again covered by what you sell.

$59,670 out the door (tax, title, tags included) on an 801a SCREW. Didn't have to source one part, find one person to complete the work, and all I had to do was sign for the new key. Plus, warranty. Not saying don't do it, each to his/her own. But, not every person thats driving a new raptor spent $70+++K for the privilege to own one. Just Say'in. But, great points/price list by WarSurfer if you wish to go that route. I will also add that the new raptor is not wanting in the power department. I have zero need for an extra 300HP.

You have to compare apples to apples. Last time I spec'd out a new Lariat it was $62k and yes that was pretty loaded. Not that much less than a new loaded Raptor.

Certainly can't build a better truck for less starting at $62k. I figured it could be done for around $85k all in. vs. ~ $70k for the Raptor that has a warranty, the drive modes, and the AWD transfer case. I'm actually indifferent on all the drive modes and the AWD, but to some they are a real benefit.

I just don't think it can be done for cheaper if you're comparing apples to apples. And that means a new car right now vs. a new car right now. Not a used one and not one that you have to hunt and source parts for and not one that you have to build yourself. That apples to oranges.

I'm actually not a Jenny owner or a guy who wants to drive a full size truck with a V6. But I'm also a realist. Again, if you want a new Raptor right now there is only one option.
